“So,hooker-face, you’ve been dodging my phone calls now for a few days. What the hell?” Sloane says throwing a paperback on the cash counter.

“Are you buying this?” I ask her with a quirked eyebrow.

“I will if it’s any good?”

“It is, but it’s book one of three. You may just want to buy all three now, so you can properly binge read.”

“But then I won’t have an excuse to come and visit my bestie,” Sloane pouts.

“Bullshit, you always have excuses.”

“That’s true. Anyway, so that kiss the other night, that was pretty hot.”

“What kiss?” I play dumb and ask.

“You know, with the hot guy that you’re living with.”

“Oh yeah, that one. Yeah, it was a good kiss.”

“And?” she pries.

“And what?”

“And has anything else happened?” she asks, leaning in.

I look away and can feel my face flush. With a smile on my face, I ring up the book for her. “That will be ten dollars and nine cents.” I say to her, avoiding her gaze.

“Why are you beet red and not looking me in the eye?” she asks knowingly.

“No reason,” I reply.

“You guys have kissed since then, haven’t you?” she says.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I say as the door rings open.

“Hey Sum? I need some help.” Shaw calls out walking into view. “Oh shit, hey Sloane.”

“Maybe you can answer my questions, since this one lit up like Rudolph’s nose, what’s going on between you two?” Sloane turns and points at him.

He holds his hands up in front of him and looks quickly to me. I shrug and smile, happy now that the pressure is all on him and off of me.

“What?” he asks, milking more time as he walks closer.

“How was that kiss from the BBQ?” Sloane asks.

“Oh that, yeah it was good,” he replies coming to stand by me. “I need some help; I don’t shop for food and what do you eat regularly?”

“Why are you buying her food?” Sloane looks suspiciously between us.

“Because she lives with me, and people need to eat food to keep living or something,” Shaw says matter-of-factly.

“Have you guys kissed again?” Sloane asks.

“I’ll eat anything, fruits, veggies, meats.” I reply, ignoring Sloane.
