“Sure,” I reply, sitting up. He sits beside me, angles his knee and faces me.

“What are you thinking?” he asks.

“A million different things,” I admit.

“Good things or bad things?”

“Both,” I reply.

“Is it bad if I want to kiss you again?” he asks surprising me.

My head swings his way at his words. “What?”

“Confession time,” he says. “I’ve wanted to kiss you since the day that we met.”

My eyes go wide, and my mouth goes dry at his confession.

“Why is this coming out now?” I ask him.

“I’ve wanted to kiss you since we met, and here we are several years later, and I did. And like I said, I want to kiss you again. But I’m struggling with what’s going on in your mind,” he says.

“It’s a mixture of thoughts. Like complicated thoughts, questions and stuff.”

“Well, maybe I can help you with the questions, and hopefully that will uncomplicate things,” he offers.

I gulp, take a deep breath and mimic his position on the bed.

“What does this do to our friendship, friends generally don’t kiss friends?”

“Sometimes, the best relationships stem from a friendship. In order to be in a relationship, you have to have a foundation,” he answers like an expert. As if this is something he’s practiced several times in the mirror.

“We just kissed and now we’re talking about relationships, gah!” I lay back on the bed and cover my eyes with my arm.

“We’re talking things out. Don’t panic. Tell me this, have you ever thought of us as more than just friends?”

A pregnant pause seems to last forever in the room. I pull my arm away from my eyes.

“Confession time,” I say. “Yes, here and there over the years and recently.”

“Recently?” he asks.

“Yeah, recently,” I admit.

He nods and looks to mull over my confession.

“You have been a little jittery,” he says with a smirk. He moves up on the bed and lies on his back so he’s on my level.

“Shaw?” I whisper.

“Yeah, Summer?”

“You can kiss me again,” I tell him. He leans up on his elbow and smiles down at me. With his fingers, he moves the hair off of my forehead.

“You’re beautiful,” he whispers.

I smile in return as he leans down. His face is inches away from mine as I close my eyes and open myself up to the idea of kissing Shaw without provocation.

Our lips touch and instantly I open up for him. His lips cover mine as our tongues seek out one another and once they touch, I feel a tingling sensation in my stomach at the movement. My hand moves to cup Shaw’s jaw and to pull him closer.
