Page 92 of Reining in Never

I pulled back, looking up at him. “What about your dreams? I thought...” Internally, I was kicking myself for questioning him even more, but my head was trying to catch up to what my heart had already accepted.

“My dreams have changed.” He brushed a strand of hair from my face. “I realised that my biggest dream is to be with you, wherever that may be.”

“And mine is to be with you,” I whispered.

I gazed up at Wyatt. His eyes shone with a lightness I had never seen in him, and before I uttered another word, he leaned down and kissed me. The kiss was electrifying, igniting that spark deep within me. His lips were soft yet firm, and I melted into his embrace, savouring the warmth of his body against mine. My fingers tangled in his hair as I pulled him closer, desperate to deepen the kiss.

Wyatt’s hands roamed over my back, his touch setting my skin on fire. Each caress was a promise, a vow to cherish and protect me. His kiss grew more passionate, more urgent, as if he were pouring every ounce of his love into this moment.

His stubble grazed my cheek, adding a delicious roughness to the tenderness of his touch. I parted my lips, inviting him in, and our tongues danced. A soft moan escaped my throat as Wyatt’s kisses trailed along my jawline, leaving a path of fire in their wake. He nuzzled the crook of my neck, his breath hot against my skin and sending shivers down my spine.

Time stood still, the world fading away until there was nothing but the two of us. In that moment, I knew without a doubt that this was where I belonged—in Wyatt’s arms.

As our lips parted, I gazed up at him, breathless and utterly captivated. His eyes looked at me with a love so pure, so deep, that it threatened to undo me. Without words, he had conveyed everything—his devotion, his longing, his promise of forever.

I beamed up at him full force. “So, you ready to be a full-time ranch hand?”

He grinned. “As long as you’re ready to be stuck with me.”

I laughed. “I think I can handle that.”

Hand in hand, we walked into the house. As I looked around at the place that had been Wyatt’s home, I felt a twinge of sadness for what he was leaving behind. But then I looked at him, at the love and certainty in his eyes, and I knew that home wasn’t a place. It was a person.

I had found my home in him, and we would never walk away from each other again. This time, when I said never, I meant it.

Forgive me now?

That was a jackass move.

Yeah, I know.

Alright, then.

Settling Down - Miranda Lambert

Wyatt

The warm summer breeze carried the scent of freshly cut hay as Kinsley and I rode across the fields of Jackson Ranch. The sun’s rays warmed our backs, and long shadows stretched out before us.

I glanced over at Kinsley as she effortlessly guided her new mare, Wildfire. The horse’s sleek chestnut coat glistened with each stride. Red mares were now her go-to type, not black demon horses.

Kinsley’s eyes sparkled with excitement, a wide grin spreading across her face as she caught my gaze. “Isn’t she incredible?” Kinsley gave Wildfire an affectionate pat on the neck. “I can’t wait for next year’s rodeo season. With Wildfire and Gambler, we’re going to be unstoppable.”

“I still have to convince Finn to give me another season.”

“We’ll work on him.”

I looked down at Gambler. The once unruly gelding had become an extension of myself. Our partnership had grown stronger with each passing day. Meanwhile, Drifter got to enjoy his retirement in horse paradise.

Kinsley urged Wildfire into a gallop. Not one to be outdone, I pushed Gambler forward, matching her stride for stride as we raced across the open field. The rhythmic pounding of the horse’s hooves on the ground filled my ears. It was my favourite sound.
