“Are you sure? Because we thought that before.”

“I watched them put in the new gates and fence surrounding the property, and each of the doors and windows have been bulletproofed. The entrances have new motion sensors and cameras along with retina scanning to open the doors. I could barely get through the front door.” he chuckles.

“Good.” I glance over to Bianca who’s lounging on the sofa. “I don’t want anybody getting in or out without me knowing about it.”

“See you soon, brat.”

I pocket my phone and head over to the couch to sit beside Bianca, pulling her into my lap and cradling her against my chest.

“Are we going home?” She sinks her fingers into my shirt.

“Yes, we’re going home.” I press a kiss to her head.

I just hope home is as secure as Dimitri claims it is. I don’t know what will happen if something happens to Bianca or the baby.

BIANCA

Alexei put me straight to bed the moment we got back to Forest Hills. The car ride back from Greenwood Lake triggered my nausea, and poor Alexei had to keep pulling over so that I could hurl up my guts every fifteen minutes.

He sets me up in my bed with a cold washcloth over my forehead and a mug of ginger tea to try and settle my stomach.

“I need to go into the city, zhizn’ moya.” He perches on the edge of the bed as he wipes at my forehead.

“Do you really have to?” I pout.

Alexei smiles, reaching down to press a kiss to the tip of my nose.

“You’ll be asleep soon, and you won’t even know I’m gone.”

“Will you be back by the time I wake up?”

“I’ll do my best, solnyshka.” He offers me one last quick kiss before getting to his feet. “I’ll see you soon.”

It doesn’t take long for sleep to pull me under. The last few days of nonstop sex has finally worn me out, not that I’m complaining.

A few days alone together, away from the stress of real life, is exactly what Alexei and I needed.

The fact that he’s on board and even excited about the pregnancy has calmed my nerves, and I keep finding myself resting my hand on my lower abdomen, my heart skipping a beat at the thought of the mini Alexei that’s growing inside me.

My phone ringing rouses me from a deep sleep.

I peel my eyes open to find my room in complete darkness, the only light coming from my phone screen on the bedside table. Squinting, I reach for my phone. Zara.

“H-hello?”

“Bianca?”

“Mmm?’ I stifle a yawn as I pull my phone away from my ear to see that it’s almost one in the morning.

“Bianca? I-I need you to come and help me. Please, B. T-there’s this guy—” Zara’s voice cracks, and I bolt upright in bed at the sound of her muffled sobs on the other end of the phone.

“Zara, what happened?”

“Oh, B. It was horrible.”

“What? Zara, what the hell is going on?”
