My knuckles turn white as I grip the steering wheel and slam my foot down on the accelerator.

I can’t have her out alone in the city when she could be carrying my child. A child that would now be considered the heir to the Koslov bratva.

If this got back to Gilanto, I know he wouldn’t stop until he put a bullet straight through her womb.

He might even have intercepted her on the way to the doctor.

I know for a fact people like Gilanto have most of the medical professionals in the city by the balls. One phone call, and it could all be over.

It’s as if someone else has taken over my body, and I’m looking down on it from above. I don’t feel my hands as I swerve the hummer onto the sidewalk outside the gynecologist’s office. I don’t feel my feet as I rush up the front steps and barge through the double doors, almost colliding with a heavily pregnant woman.

“Hey!”

I’m already pushing past her toward the reception desk.

“Where is she?” I slam my hands down on the reception desk.

The young girl behind the counter jumps, her hands clutching her chest as she takes me in. “W-who?”

I know I look like hell with my blood stained clothes, reeking of sweat and piss, but I’m past caring. I need to see Bianca with my own two eyes.

“Bianca,” I snap.

“I… Uh, there is no Bianca?—”

“Screw this.” I push off from the desk, storming toward the examination rooms.

“Sir! Sir, you can’t?—”

I ignore her as I turn right and head down a narrow corridor.

Most of the doors on either side are open, and I glance in each, my stomach sinking further as they all come up empty.

Please be alive.

There’s only one more door at the end of this corridor. If she’s not in here, then there’s no doubt I’m too late. There’s no telling what Gilanto could be doing to her right now.

Sweat breaks out on the back of my neck as I reach for the handle and force open the door.

“Alexei?”

My eyes dart to Bianca lying in the examination chair with her legs up in stirrups. Her bright blue eyes widen as she takes me in.

“Does someone want to tell me what the fuck is going on?” I look to the doctor who is currently moving some probe-like device between her legs.

He looks over his shoulder at me, completely unfazed by my bloody appearance, as if this is nothing out of the ordinary in his line of work.

“I’m sorry, sir, but you can’t be in here?—”

“It’s okay, Dr. Waite.” Bianca takes a deep breath, glancing at me. “He’s the father.”

Oh, fuck.

BIANCA

There is nothing but pain and betrayal in Alexei’s eyes as he looks at me.
