“You’re so close to saying yes. I can see it in your eyes.”

His words float over to me, seeping through my skin and settling inside the hole that I’ve carried inside my chest for over ten years.

So close.

“I found you, Ava.” His blue eyes search mine. “And you found me.”

I gulp back a sob, but another replaces it immediately, bubbling from my lips. Jet’s hold on my left hand is gentle, the ring still poised in place.

“Say it,” he breathes.

I nod.

“Say it,” he repeats, waiting patiently, like he’d wait forever for me if I needed him to.

But I don’t need forever.

I just need my own Jet.

“Yes.”

The breath leaves his lungs, his chest softening as he slides the ring onto my finger.

I stare at the giant yellow diamond as he pulls my forehead to his.

“I love you,” he breathes.

A smile finally breaks onto my face.

“I love you, too.”

His eyes follow mine to the huge rock that’s weighing my finger down.

“Looks good on you.”

I bite my lip. It does. And it feels good.

“I know where I want to get married,” I blurt. “I know exactly where.”

Jet clears his throat, his posture stiffening.

“What?”

He’s silent.

“Jet?” I gasp, studying the deep line between his brows. “You’ve booked it already, haven’t you?”

He rolls his lips, a muscle in his jaw tensing. “I always win, Ava,” he rasps, looking into my eyes.

“Oh my god! What if I’d said no?”

His eyes heat. “I’d have kept asking.”

“You’re insane.” I scoff. But I can’t help the grin on my face growing wider as I recall the words he once said to me. “You’re fucking obsessed,” I repeat them, expecting him to agree.

“No.” His voice is more serious than I’ve ever heard it. “I’m just in love with you.”

My heart dances. I don’t think I’ll ever tire of hearing those words.
