Chapter 42

Ava

Twenty-four hours later

We’re in the arrivalshall at the airport when his private plane lands. Liv’s told me the way I’m dancing around on my tiptoes looking for him makes me look like I have a bladder infection. But she’s doing the exact same thing as she looks for David.

“Do you think he’ll have missed me as much as I’ve missed him?” Liv gnaws her bottom lip, unusually nervous for her.

“You really like him.” I laugh, glancing at her.

She breaks into a smile. “Okay, I do. But don’t tell him. I want to maintain some element of playing hard to get so he doesn’t get lazy.”

“I don’t think you’ll ever let him get slack.”

She tilts her head, her lips twisting into a coy smile. “True.”

I start to laugh again but then my breath hitches as I spot a dark head of hair exiting from a private doorway nearby.

“They’re here!” I squeak.

He moves so fluidly, taller than anyone else around him. Power, control, and brilliance ooze from every pore as he wears his navy-blue suit pants and white shirt unbuttoned at the neck.

My gaze rakes over the parts of him I can see before the crowd parts, giving him a clear pathway to me.

They know. The whole world knows.

One look at Jet Grant and it’s obvious he’s someone special.

It feels like every cell in my body freezes, and I’m rooted to the spot as my eyes meet his. Nothing could have prepared me for the way my heart feels like it’s about to explode. Daily video calls are nothing compared to the real thing.

Clear blue pierces me, like a shot of oxygen when your brain is just about to close down.

He’s here.

Liv curses gently under her breath as she sees David. But all I can focus on is the man walking toward me with purpose, closing the distance that six months of traveling through fourteen countries has created.

I break into a run, no longer controlling my body consciously. Every second of the time we’ve been apart is carrying me. Powering me to end that distance once and for all.

“Jet!”

The tears streaming down my face and blurring my vision are happy ones as I launch myself into the air. He drops the bag he’s carrying and catches me underneath the ass, immediately pulling my body against his tight enough to make me dizzy.

But I don’t care.

Nothing matters except that he’s here.

“Goddamn, Ava.” His words send a shiver running through my body as he buries his face into my neck, inhaling with a pantie-melting groan. “Fuck, you smell amazing.”

I grab his face between my hands and our eyes meet. His are shining with a new brightness in them I haven’t seen before.

But god does it suit him.

We continue staring at each other, drinking the other in. My heart pounds as his breath fans over my lips.

So much emotion. So much time.

But it’s what I needed. He knew it. And I trusted him. I trust him with my life. After everything, it’s the thing I’m most sure of.
