“I still have to get it from the auto pound,” I gritted out. I’ve only ever read about evil smirks, and I never imagined them to be so… attractive? Whatever, I still don’t like being around him!

“Awful, really. Had I known it belonged to the new consultant, I wouldn’t have called a towing company.” he sighed, and I rolled my eyes. “More precisely, the nepotism baby who got her job only because her daddy is the manager,” he said in a quieter voice, and I frowned.

“Aren’t you a bit too old and about to retire to be concerned about how I got my job?” I looked up at him, tilting my head to the side. “Are you feeling a bit sensitive because your career is about to end? Oh, I’m not supposed to say that. Sorry.” I smiled, and he looked at me, clenching his jaw.

He turned and walked away without saying anything. He could have avoided all of this had he just left me alone. Dick! Humming the same tune my father was whistling, I walked to my office feeling fulfilled and satisfied.

If only I could do something about his car as well… But would that be considered stooping down to his level? Possibly? No! I was young and I was bound to make mistakes every once in a while.

What to do, what to do? I sat on my chair and looked out the window, seeing the field and how everyone who towered me looked like ants. Pulling my chair closer to the window, I balanced my head on my palm and looked at my baby cactus plant.

“What do you think I should do to annoy Alexander?” I whispered as I moved around the little pebbles in the pot. “Should I get his car towed as well?” I looked at the plant, expecting it to answer my question.

Shaking my head, I sat up straight and crossed my leg over the other. “You’re right; that is very low.” I nibbled on my bottom lip. Looking out the window, I frowned as I watched a familiar frame walk onto the field. “Actually,” I said softly as I got up, placing my hands on the table that faced the window. “Yes!” I giggled as I got an amazing idea. I grabbed my pen and notebook, bolting out of my office and down to the field.

I should have used the elevator; it was clear I hadn’t exercised in so long. I held onto the wall, trying to catch my breath before I walked onto the field. I composed myself and fixed my posture. I should be natural. I didn’t want to come off as too excited.

Pushing the stray strands from my ponytail, I opened the door and kept a neutral expression. This is good, right? Nothing looks premeditated so far, right?

“Miss Collins?” The coach looked at me, concerned, and I gave him my kindest smile as I motioned to the players.

“I thought I should come do some research and see what the players are like during practice. I hope I am not disturbing?” I asked softly, and he looked at me with a flattered expression.

“No, please. Do sit. Some different company would be great.” He pointed to the chair, and I grinned as I saw Alexander’s snarl. Oh, this was going to be amazing!

“Thank you,” I whispered as I sat down beside the coach. He chuckled as he watched Aaron run across the field.

“Look at the boy showing off because of you.” He laughed as he clapped his hands.

“Aaron?” I asked as I watched him slide on the ground to touch the home plate.

“Yeah.” Coach Anderson chuckled as he whistled, clapping his hands. “Good, Aaron!” he shouted, and I was startled as I watched the smile grow on Aaron's face. He waved his hand for me, and I beamed at him.

Alexander rolled his eyes as he wound his arm around, getting ready to pitch. Look at him being so professional, who would've thought. Making notes on most of the players, I looked up and saw Alexander’s determined expression change to more of a rough expression as he pitched the ball. Why did it look like he was in pain? As the ball left the grip of his fingers, Alexander looked at the ball, shaking off his arm. His free hand rubbed his shoulder, and I frowned.

What was wrong with him?

I looked down at my notes, confused; had something happened to him recently? I knew he had a shoulder injury, but the documents said he was officially healed. Was I worried about him?

Absolutely not! However, I was concerned his shoulder would be an issue. He must go get that checked out. He would probably bite my head off if I mentioned it.

“All right, boys!” Coach Anderson shouted as he clapped his hands. “Fitness!” The boys groaned and muttered their apathy as they grudgingly walked past the coach. “Uh huh, I will add sprints to the list I already have.” I giggled as the boys whined and begged him not to add the exercise.

“Naomi, say it’s bad for our mental health or something, huh?” one of the players asked as he stood next to the coach.

“Don’t go involving her in this—now get on with it!” Coach Anderson scolded as he slapped the player’s back, and he groaned, following the other players. Coach Anderson followed after them, shouting for them to hurry.

“Hey, Naomi,” Aaron sang as he stood in front of me with his arms open. I shook my head, motioning to his sweaty self.

“Boy, no!” I laughed as I distanced myself from him. “Get to fitness.” Aaron stuck his tongue out, rolling his eyes.

“Still mean as ever, aren’t you?” He laughed as he strolled past me.

“Won’t be changing anytime soon, either.” I shouted, and he chuckled as he entered the building. Alexander walked past me as if he couldn’t see me, and I rolled my eyes as I ran after him. “Alexander?” He kept on walking, and I called out for him again.

“Yes?” he huffed as he turned to face me. I smiled as I clutched my notes against my chest.

“I was watching you at practice, and I?—”
