“Don’t bother her, Soap,” Alexander said as he lifted the cloth that covered the scones and took one, popping it into his mouth. The whole thing. “Stop bothering her,” he mumbled with his mouth full, and Olivia grimaced as she looked at him.

“You look very ugly right now,” she said, and he raised his middle finger as he walked around the island and picked his mom up, spinning her around.

“Don’t curse at your sister.” Maya giggled, and Alexander kissed her forehead and cheek, laughing.

“She started it.” He shrugged before sneaking in a last kiss on her temple.

“How do you deal with that?” Sophia asked as she looked at her brother ,annoyed, but I could tell she was happy he was around. Why did he call her Soap? It's kinda funny.

“He’s different with you guys.” I giggled as I thought of his behavior ever since we’d walked through the door.

He’s so happy to be home.

“But aren’t the two of you risking it? I mean, you are his doctor and he is your patient.” Sophia shrugged as she opened the oven.

“Client and consultant,” I corrected, and as if he were called, Alexander walked back in the kitchen and flicked Olivia’s forehead.

“What was that for?” She cried out as she rubbed her forehead.

“I brought a friend home. There’s nothing wrong with that, right?”

“I didn’t say anything!” Olivia cried out as she punched his arm, and he stuck out his tongue and pushed her away from him. “Ma!”

“Stop bullying your sister, Seth,” Maya said as she stirred the pots.

“Yes, Ma.” He kissed the top of her head and walked toward me.

“And you better leave my kitchen,” Maya said sternly, and he smiled, turning around on his heels and leaving. The twins snickered, and she turned to face them, and they both kept quiet immediately. “Why don’t you take a break?” Maya smiled as she faced me, and I nodded.

“Aunt Nao.” I looked down at the girl, and she was holding a doll in her hands. “Play with me!”

“What do we say, Amelia?” Olivia asked, and Lia looked up at her, blinking as she stared at her mother.

“Play with me now,” Lia said as she stared at me with her big doe eyes. How could I say no to that?

“Lia!” Olivia scolded, and Lia giggled as she pressed the doll against her chest. She obviously did not take her mother seriously. Lia grabbed my hand and pulled me to the living room, placing me right in the center of the room. I froze as I stared back at all the men Lia had suddenly placed me in front of.

“You’re blocking the view,” the old man grumbled, and I quickly sat down next to Lia, embarrassed. Alex looked at him and sighed, rolling his eyes.

“Nao, that’s my Dad—” Alexander introduced us, pointing to the grumbling old man. Alex and his sisters looked like their mother, but now I knew where he got his attitude. “—Arthur, and this is Olivia’s husband, John.” I shook his hand, smiling back at him. “Nick, Sophia’s husband, and the quiet boy is Seth. The first boy, who unfortunately also got cursed with the name.” Seth waved his hand, his eyes glued on the screen. He sat next to his grandfather, who had his arm around his shoulder.

He must love his grandchildren.

“Nice to meet you all,” I whispered softly, and looked back down to Lia, who was begging for my attention. Ethan and Ezra were also sitting next to us, and we silently played together, not wanting to disturb the men who were heavily focused on the game in front of them.

“Come eat!” Olivia called out, and everyone rushed out of the living room, Alexander included. I was left with Lia and her grandfather, Arthur. He looked at me with pursed lips and nodded.

“Are you Alexander’s girlfriend?” he asked, and I opened my mouth, wanting to answer, but Lia giggled as she mushed her cheek against mine.

“Lexie’s girlfriend.” Arthur stared at Lia and smiled softly before turning his gray eyes to stare into mine.

“I like kids,” he said and walked away. My eyes widened as he passed me, still registering what he’d just said to me. That was awkward.

“Babe, the food will finish if you just stand there,” Sophia said as she gently tapped my shoulder. “My Dad said something weird, didn’t he?” She had a look of concern, and I swallowed hard.

“He said he likes kids,” I whispered, and she looked at me, shocked, before she broke out into a fit of laughter.

“He likes you,” she breathed out as she wiped her tears.
