“I hate Alexander,” I blurted out, and my Dad sat up.

“Did he do something to you?”

I giggled as I watched his father-mode activate; his frown got deeper as his lips turned downward.

“No, he’s just impossible to work with, you know? I’m there to help him, and he makes it incredibly difficult!” I ended up telling them of our encounters outside the consultation sessions and how he was just so annoying and an ass 100% of the time. “So, we came to the decision that we should just be enemies and not pretend with each other.” I finished the rest of the wine that was left in my glass.

“Well, I think that was mature from both of your sides to admit you don’t like each other, so now it won’t get in the way of your work,” Mia said, nodding supportively while Dad just frowned. Look at those wrinkles getting deeper. Hilarious!

“I don’t know, baby. Do you want me to talk to him?” he asked, and I chuckled as I got up.

“No, this is my fight, and I will sort him out my own way.” I raised my fist, and Mia laughed as she threw her head back.

“That’s the spirit baby! Fight your battles.” I swayed a bit and giggled as I dropped my face into my hands.

“I’m a bit exhausted, so I will turn in first.” I waved, and I heard my Dad mutter that I was just drunk from a full glass of wine.

Once I made it to my bedroom, I dropped on my bed and closed my eyes, sighing. This wasn’t such a bad way to end my Friday.

‘‘Princess.’’ I heard his guttural voice seduce my entire being. Why does wine always bring out the sluttiest version of yourself? His chest had looked really wide when he was unbuttoning his shirt. I'd always been attracted to a bit of chest hair. I wondered how far it went.

Did it just end by his chest, or did it meet in the middle, leading down to his—oh, what am I thinking?

I will not touch myself to the thought of him! Never!

‘‘Is that so, Miss Collins?’’ Why did it feel like he was in the room with me right then? I was blaming this on the wine; under sobriety, I would never do this. Turning to lie on my back, my fingers traveled down my tummy, knowing exactly where it was I wanted them. Sneaking in my fingers under my panties, I sighed as my fingers brought me the pleasure I’d been craving for ages.

As the high ended, I could feel the guilt start to creep in, and in big waves just like the climax was. Why was the guilt always so strong right after happiness? I stared at my glistening hand and groaned as I palmed my forehead with my clean hand.

I did not just touch myself to thoughts of Alexander Seth Harris! Fuck!

Chapter 9

Alexander

“Will you be attending Naomi’s presentation, Alex?” Leo sneered, and I smiled as I placed my finger on my lips. I should, shouldn’t I? It felt like I hadn’t seen her in forever even though we’d had a session just yesterday, and she would not meet my gaze at all, which surprised me.

All of our past sessions, she had to challenge me with her strange hazel-green eyes, and yet yesterday, nothing happened. The session ended relatively quickly as well, much to my preference. I was overjoyed but annoyed that she didn’t have time for me.

She didn’t say that, but that was how I’d perceived it.

“Am I part of the Chicago Grizzlies?” I asked sarcastically, and Leo rolled his eyes as he raised his middle finger. “I believe we were all invited.” I shrugged, and he groaned.

“I wish you weren’t invited. You’re just going to annoy Naomi,” he whispered, and I tilted my head as I stared at him. Most of the time, I would just brush it over when he would mention our hate-hate relationship; however, now it was becoming really annoying. How I distracted Naomi had absolutely nothing to do with him.

“Did she hire you as her bodyguard?”

Leo looked surprised with my question as he put his hand over his chest, gasping for an answer. “No, but I’m looking out for her. She’s a?—”

“Did she ask you to do that for her?” I asked, interrupting his dull statement. Looking out for her? Naomi was more than able to hold her own against me if she had to.

Why was I getting so offended and sensitive over this? He was just expressing his own opinion, but I hated how they all thought they had to fight for her like she was just some pitiful woman. Something I’d learned through an hour-filled session of insults; although I did insult her back, it felt good.

Naomi isn’t some damsel-in-distress waiting for saving.

“Okaaay,” Leo drawled, raising his arms. It was hard to keep serious as his accent got thicker. “You better behave, okay?” It felt like a puppy was threatening me.

“Yeah. Whatever, sir.” I rolled my eyes as I threw my arm around his shoulder and dragged him along with me to the conference room. “What’s the presentation about, anyway?” I asked as we entered the room. I could see Aaron and Naomi talking away cheerfully.
