“Hmm, I’m sure it does. Now, get out of my office. I’ve had enough of you today.” I got up, looking at my watch. I want cake.

“Oh? So you like it when I get rough, huh?” He smirked, and I groaned, pointing to my door.

“Oh. My. Gosh! Just get out, Mr. Harris.”

He laughed as he got up and raised his hands as if he were surrendering. “I was just kidding; don’t fall for me just yet!”

I think this was the first time we were actually laughing together.

What a breakthrough indeed.

Chapter 8

Naomi

One would think that since Alexander and I had decided on becoming sworn foes and hashed it out in our last therapy session of the week, things would be different, right? Well, guess what? NOTHING CHANGED! Alexander was still the same annoying piece of shit he had always been, and don’t get me started with those glares.

What could have I possibly done in the space of two days to receive such behavior? Was it so wrong for me to greet Aaron and have a few laughs with him? Alex and his moods. Did he not know such stuff was contagious?

I was standing with Aaron by the vending machines when he showed up and roughly stabbed the numbers on the vending machine, wilding out just for a can of diet cola. I tried to make a joke with him, because I thought we could do that now, but instead, he glared at me and clicked his tongue as he walked away.

Clicked. His. Fucking. Tongue! Who did that at his age? Aaron and I were left confused as we watched his wide back retreating to whatever hellhole he crawled out of… I’m sure it smelled like ass, even.

Argh, what am I thinking? Groaning, I placed my head on the cool steering wheel, hoping it would calm me down. Thank God it’s Friday! Huffing, I grabbed my stuff from the passenger seat and closed my baby’s door a little too roughly.

See? This is what Alexander does to you. He creeps into your blood vessels and pisses off every fucking muscle in your body, and you just can’t control yourself thereafter!

“I fucking hate you with all my heart and soul. I hate you, Alexander!” I seethed as I opened the door, meeting a pair of light brown eyes staring at me.

“Hi, Naomi!” Mia, my father’s gorgeous girlfriend, waved as she stood in the kitchen, hopefully whipping up her signature meal. My shoulders slumped as I dropped my items carelessly on the oak wooden floor that I’d begged Daddy to have installed.

“Is that chow mein?” I asked hopefully as I sniffed the air, looking at her doe eyes. She giggled and nodded. I swear I have never in my life rushed to hug someone before.

“Yes, baby,” she laughed as she soothingly rubbed my back; it honestly felt as if all my problems were disappearing from the meal I was about to eat, and Mia’s amazing hug! My arms wrapped tightly and firmly around her thick body while my head laid happily on her chest. Mia was a gorgeous woman, and never once did she try to fill my mother’s shoes. Instead, she became my second mother who understood me and always advocated for me against my dad.

Even though they’d been dating for years, they had never gotten married because they thought it would make me feel uncomfortable. Sure, maybe in my teenage years I would’ve been really bitter—God knows I was bitter when they started dating, which was almost five years after Mom passed away and I was 18. I guess that was why I chose to go to university so far away from home—still in the same state, but far from him.

Although, I quickly warmed up to her in the first year she was in our lives. Who wouldn’t? Her warm brown eyes complimented her brown skin, and how she would always wear her hair differently almost every week made me kind of jealous. Her hair was magical! And as a growing young female, I couldn’t help but compare my body to her curvaceous body; plus, she has amazing boobs.

I mistakenly saw them when I was looking for my Dad in his room, but instead of finding him there, I walked into a half-naked Mia, and I guess we’d been close since then. It was awkward, but she quickly burst that bubble I was hiding in, and since then we’d just been close.

“I love you, Mia,” I sighed as we swayed side to side, and she giggled, moving my hair away from my face.

“I hope you’re not trying to take away my Mia, Naomi?” my dad asked as he walked into the kitchen.

“She’s our Mia, Daddy,” I spoke back as I unwrapped my arms from Mia, instantly feeling cold, missing her soft fragrance.

“Aww, look at her, Noah. She’s shivering,” Mia would always, and I mean always, fall for my tricks on her, but the moment she would see me playing tricks on my dad, she would call me out on my bluff. “Come here, baby girl. Work was tough on you, wasn’t it?” she cooed, and I pouted my lips as I walked back into her arms. My dad pulled me back by my blazer. Stepping in between Mia and me, he crossed his arms over his chest.

“Then tell Daddy all about it.” He mimicked Mia’s tone, and she laughed as she lightly slapped his back and peeked from behind.

“Go take a shower, darling. I still have to make the beef.”

“Yes, Mia.” I smiled as I quickly picked up my stuff from the ground, running upstairs to my bedroom. I took off my clothes and grabbed my towel, walking into my bathroom. I immediately filled up the bathtub with water. I loved it whenever the bathroom steamed up and the sweet fragrance from the bath salts mixed with the water. Absolute bliss.

Dropping my towel as I turned off the faucet, I moaned when my foot made contact with the hot water; just the perfect temperature to forget all about the one stressor in my life. Leaning against the bathtub, I sighed happily as I skimmed over my skin lightly, watching the little droplets fall on my olive skin, the little hairs flat with water.

Has my body always looked this great? My eyes trailed down my body, and I raised my legs, watching as the water rolled off my skin. “Wow, I’m totally hot,” I whispered as I dropped my legs back into the water.
