“And the house itself? Is there anything you want in it?”

“Yeah, a big garage with a lift for my bike. I’ll pay for it.”

“You don’t…”

His words trailed off when Indio turned his head to look him dead in the eye. Binx was right, Sel already knew what that look meant. He wasn’t to argue.

“Okay. You pay for the lift.”

“And I pay my share of…whatever. I’m guessing there won’t be rent or a mortgage, but they’ll be utilities and shit. I’ll pay those.”

“We’re getting solar, and we’ll have a well.”

Laughing, Indio said, “Then I’ll find a way to pay you. I’ll pay you with dick until then.”

“I’m not arguing.”

That afternoon, they rode Indio’s bike out to the property around the compound. There was a lake just to the northwest of there, and at first, Indio liked that, then asked, “Where is that airport?”

“It’s closer to the entrance, on the western side of these little mountains.”

“Too close,” he said, and they got back on the bike.

Around the eastern side of the mountains, they crossed what was little more than a footbridge and Indio parked just on the other side of it. As he got off, Sel was staring around at the land and his mind was blown at the beauty.

A stream under the little bridge cut that piece off from the rest of the place, and there was a nice little valley that made a circle in the trees. The grass was tall and bright green, and the sun warmed them as they walked around the tree line.

“This is it,” Sel said as he did a twirl. “It’s less than half a mile from the compound, but we’re all on our own. The house can sit right in the center, and I’m sure the well would hit water without digging very deep.”

“This is definitely the place. We’ll need a better bridge, unless we want to park over there and walk home, but in the winter, that would suck.”

“No, we’ll get a better bridge built. Indio, it’s so beautiful here.”

“Fuck, man, this is perfect.”

Indio went to him, grabbing him up and picking him off his feet to kiss him solidly. Sel didn’t think he’d ever seen Indio so happy. “Indio, can I call you my boyfriend when we start living together?”

Those pretty eyes shined. “You can call me that now.”

Chapter Thirty-Two

May

Indio ran through the house, clad only in his shorts, hollering for Sel. “Where the fuck are you? Why the hell did he want such a big house?”

Sel stepped out of the kitchen where he’d been cooking the omelets Binx showed him how to make. “It’s not that big. Three bedrooms, three bathrooms. You know I came from a house that had three times that?”

“Where the fuck are my jeans?”

After rolling his eyes, Sel pointed to the back of the kitchen. “You insist they’re hung so they don’t shrink, and it was cold yesterday, so I hung them in the laundry room.”

“Are they dry?”

“Should be.”

Mumbling the entire way to the laundry room, Indio ignored Sel’s laughter. “Why the hell he’s gotta wash all of them at the same time…”

Sel dished up the two omelets and set the kitchen table with the food and he watched Indio coming back into the kitchen in fresh jeans. “Are they dry?”
