Despite the pain and heartbreak, my mama found a way to carry on.

“What about you, Sofiya?” Marina asked, tilting her head. “Who are you?”

Her question took me by surprise, and I scratched my palm, trying to distract myself. “What do you mean?”

She got up and walked toward me, looked down through the window, and waved, presumably at Volk in the garden.

I pressed my back harder against the glass, my heart pounding, refusing to turn and check.

Her hand rose to caress my cheek.

“Do you wanna fuck him?” she whispered softly.

I jerked back in shock. “What? No!”

Marina chuckled, clearly enjoying my reaction. “Relax, silly. I’m just teasing you.”

Leaning against the window, she traced her fingers along the glass.

“You know, Sofiya,” she continued with a sly grin, “Volk’s wild between the sheets. I doubt a girl like you could handle him, so please … be careful.”

“Disgust influences trust.”

Volk

Leaving Marina alone with Sofiya had been a mistake, one I regretted the moment I stepped out of the dining room. Marina’s influence was toxic, and I should have known better than to let her poison Sofiya’s mind.

Out of everyone, I knew Marina best. She was a master manipulator—perhaps even better than I was.

As I rushed to the garden after receiving a text from Igor about an attack on our men in Colombia, irritation boiled inside me. My phone rang again, and Igor’s agitated voice filled my ear.

He explained the explosion at Julius’s warehouse, caused by a bomb planted by someone who had infiltrated Julius’s security system. Our men barely escaped with their lives, and some weren’t so lucky.

Whoever was fucking responsible would pay the price.

Deep down, I knew Vlad was behind it all.

“Thanks for the update, boss. And don’t worry, everything is under control here.”

After hanging up, I took a deep breath, trying to cool off before going back inside.

“Everything okay, Volk?” one of the guards dared to ask.

I shot him a look that could curdle milk.

He wisely shut up, sensing my rage.

Entering the dining room, I found Marina alone, guzzling whiskey straight from the bottle.

“I didn’t expect to see you so soon,” she said, taking another swig of whiskey.

My brows furrowed. “Where’s Sofiya?”
