Chapter Four

~Coco~

The flirting had started as something innocent. I honestly just wanted to see if he’d break my dad’s rules for me. But when he finally kissed me, my entire world shifted.

I was in love with him.

It was stupid, honestly. And he’d probably laugh right in my face if I ever told him. But the second his lips touched mine, he may as well have physically ripped my heart out of my chest and put it in his pocket. Because it was his.

I pulled back from the kiss and stared up at him, smiling softly. I actually had no experience with men, so I wasn’t sure what to do now. I certainly wasn’t going to lose my virginity to him in broad daylight at work. But he didn’t seem to want to push me for anything that drastic anyway.

“Pick me up at eight?” I asked him.

“What?” His eyes widened as he stared down at me.

“I told you,” I said. “My dad’s out of town.” I turned around to the desk and scribbled my address on a piece of paper, then tucked it into his hand. “Eight o’clock.”

“Okay,” he agreed. “I’ll see you tonight.”

He walked out and I leaned against the desk, my hand over my heart. I didn’t know where this fake confidence was coming from, but it seemed to really be working with him.

All kind of inappropriate possibilities starting popping into my head about what I could get him to do for me. Or with me.

“Ugh,” I told myself out loud. “Get it together, woman!”

I picked up the boxes from the floor and carried them back up the ladder, setting them on top of the cabinet again. It had been the only ploy I could think of to get him into the office with me.

When I got back down and turned around, I saw Thomas leaning against the doorframe, looking at me with a smirk on his face.

“You’re a brat,” he told me again.

“What are you doing back here?” I asked as my cheeks heated with embarrassment.

“I forgot that I’m having dinner with my parents tonight,” he said.

“Oh.” I shrugged. “That’s okay, we can reschedule.”

“Actually, I wanted to ask if you’d come with me.”

“Why?” The question slipped out before I could stop it.

He grinned and walked over to me, pulling me into his arms and kissing me softly.

“So that when your dad fires me, they’ll understand why.”

“Daddy isn’t going to fire you,” I insisted.

“Oh, do you have him wrapped around your finger, too?” Thomas teased. “You sure did it to me quick enough.”

“You really want me to meet your parents?” I asked, making sure he understood what he was asking me.

“Can I pick you up at six?”

I nodded.

He smiled, kissed me again, then walked back out the door.

Wow. Our first kiss and dinner with ‘rents all in one day? If we didn’t slow down we’d be married by the end of the month.

My heart skipped a beat as I realized that I might actually be okay with that. What the hell had this guy done to me?
