Chapter Eight

~Coco~

I’d been completely unsure of what I was going to do when he got me up to his room. But I definitely didn’t imagine that I’d be jumping up and down on his bed, screaming ‘in your face’ after an hour and a half of playing video games with him.

He stood up and snagged me around the waist, throwing me down to the mattress in a full body tackle as we laughed together.

“Yes, you are the Clay Fighter queen,” he told me as he brushed a strand of hair off my face. “I bow down to your prowess of the Val-Holler Yodel.”

“Helga is seriously underrated,” I informed him, staring up into his dark eyes.

“One should never underestimate a woman,” he agreed. His finger traced down my jaw and my eyelids fluttered closed at the soft touch. “I’m going to kiss you now.”

“Okay,” I whispered.

His lips touched mine and my body arched into him as my arms wrapped around his neck. The weight of him on top of me was the most delicious feeling I’d ever experienced, and I realized that I never wanted it to end.

As much as I may have been teasing him all day, I knew in that moment that I could spend the rest of my life kicking his ass at video games and making out afterward.

“What’s your major?” he asked, his mouth still over mine, so close I could feel his lips move as he talked.

“Pre-Wed,” I lied. “I’m just at school to party and meet my future husband.”

“Mmm,” he murmured. “Is he rich?”

“Yes,” I said, smiling against his lips. “And so very handsome.”

“He sounds nice,” Thomas said, pursing his lips to kiss me softly. “Probably dumb, though.”

“As a box of rocks,” I agreed, nodding a little. “Just the way I like ‘em.”

“What about me?” he asked, pulling back to look down at me.

“What about you?” I widened my eyes innocently.

“What about marrying me?”

I wiggled out of his grip and climbed off the bed, turning toward the window and wrapping my arms around myself.

“Hey,” he said, walking up behind me, but not touching me. “Would it help if I told you that I’m not kidding?”

I turned around and stared at him, my vision only swimming a little with tears that were dangerously close to falling.

“Don’t,” I told him, my tone harder than I’d expected. “I don’t want to play this game anymore.”

“So, it was a game for you?” He put his hands in his pockets and stared down at the floor, nodding slowly. “Okay, Coco. Whatever you want.”

“Wait,” I said, lifting his chin up to look at me with my finger. “You weren’t playing?”

“I stopped about halfway here,” he admitted with a small chuckle. “I will totally impregnate you tonight.”

“You’re an asshole,” I told him with a sigh.

“And you’re still under the impression that I’m joking.” He shrugged. “I will call your father, right now, and ask his permission to marry you if you’ll have me.”

“You are out of your mind,” I told him. “We don’t even know each other.”

“We’ll learn,” he said. He took my hands in his and pressed a soft kiss to my knuckles. “Coco, you have completely stolen my heart. I think you kept it the first time you shook my hand in your dad’s office. I knew in that moment that there was no way I was going to be able to stay away from you. You’re like a magnet, just pulling me in.”
