Grandfather waved a dismissive hand at me. "I know what you told me, but after what I've gone through with your father, it took me a little time to understand why you were doing it."

He stared at me for a moment before letting out a little laugh. "You really planned all of those scandals?"

"Most of them. Like I said, a few of them were just wrong place, wrong time."

"How so?"

"Well, yesterday is a good example. After Dante smacked me around and my guard shot him, I called one of my media contacts and gave her the lead and what angle I wanted on the story, and then I called Alejandro and told him how he needed to act to make it believable and tell the story we wanted to tell."

"Is that why all the news outlets are showing video of you throwing yourself into Alejandro's arms?"

"Yeah." I snickered. "Worried husband comforting his terrified spouse was the angle I gave Cindy. Worked out kind of well, don't you think?"

"I'm sure anyone looking at that video would think that."

"Which was the point." I sighed, wondering if I would ever get this across to my grandfather. "Look, I play a part almost every time I go out into public and create one of these media scenes. I don't like it, but I learned from the best how to make a scene."

"Your parents?"

I nodded. "The difference is that I am doing it on purpose to create the image I want people to see. I don't like going to clubs. I don't even like drinking. I usually go into the bathroom and sprinkle alcohol on my clothes so I smell drunk. Going to clubs, getting drunk, and creating a scene makes me look like the idiotic spoiled rich kid. No one ever looks at me and thinks I'm smart."

"You've always been smart."

"Alejandro certainly thinks so. He believes we can help each other get what we want from this marriage and life. I support him in the security firm and he helps me with my secret endeavors."

"I guess that's not a bad thing."

It wasn't, and I was glad my grandfather saw that.

"I just wished you had talked to me about this before now, Delancy. I could have helped you."

"I wanted to," I admitted. "You don't know how many times I started to say something, but I couldn't. People's lives depended on me keeping my mouth shut."

"So, why say something now?"

"Alejandro said it was time."

It was that simple for me.

My grandfather finally smiled. "So, how can I help?"

Chapter Twenty-Five

~ Alejandro ~

Pure red-hot agony slammed through me as my eyes fluttered open. It took a moment for me to breathe without pain and then orient myself and figure out that I was in my bedroom.

Why was I in my bedroom?

And the pain?

Wait...

"Delancy!" I shouted as I tried to sit up.

Firm hands instantly pushed me back down. "Hey, hey, I'm right here. Calm down and try not to move so much. You will rip out your stitches."

"Delancy?"
