"Don't worry about it. That's what frat brothers do for frat brothers," he said. "It will be good to have you back, Alejandro, even under these circumstances. We missed you."

While we had stayed in contact through emails and phone calls over the years, I had only been able to meet Jake in person once when he flew to Colombia on a business trip. Other than that one time, it had been years since I had seen him or my other frat brothers.

I had missed them.

I wasn't sure anyone who hadn't been in a frat understood the bond that grew between frat brothers. Granted, we didn't bond with every single member that had lived there with us, but the bonds that had formed were for life. I considered these guys my brothers more than my real brother.

Considering who my real brother was, that wasn't saying much.

I felt the engines come to life and start rumbling. "I need to go, Jake. The airplane is about to take off. I'll give you a call after my meeting tomorrow."

"Okay, I'll talk to you then."

I hung up my phone, put it on airplane mode, and then slid it back into my pocket. I made sure that my seatbelt was securely fastened, and then waited for take-off.

There was a small part of me that wondered if this was all some sort of perverse joke set up by my grandfather and his guards were going to come barging through the door of the airplane before we could take off.

I didn't realize I was holding my breath until the plane started to move.

I didn't release that breath until the wheels left the ground.

I was still going to be hesitant when we landed and I got a feel for Martinez. I had met him a few times when he came to visit my grandfather, but we never actually talked other than to greet each other.

My grandfather could still be planning on Martinez taking me out once I arrived in the States. It would be just like him to give me a little hope of freedom and then snatch it away from me.

My bonehead half-brother learned from the best after all.

Once the plane leveled out and the seatbelt sign went off, Hugo undid his seatbelt and moved over to sit next to me. He glanced toward the front of the cabin before leaning toward me to whisper, "Is this really happening?"

"It is, but be on your toes. I'm still not convinced that this isn't a set-up."

Hugo's eyes darted to me. "You think we are being set up?"

"No, I think I am being set up."

"Explain."

"You and I both know I was ordered never to leave Colombia again after that incident during my university days. You also know that my grandfather hates me with a passion and basically wishes I had been a stain on the sheets."

"Everyone knows that," Hugo said. "What does that have to do with anything?"

"He told me that if I did not marry this guy and stay married to him, I would have to go back to Colombia and face the consequences."

Hugo's eyes rounded. "You're getting married?"

Guess I forgot to mention that part of this fiasco.

"That's part of the deal," I replied. "I guess my grandfather made some sort of promise with a guy he served with during the war and that guy called him last week and reminded him of it. He has a grandson he wants to marry off."

"And they chose you?"

"The guy is gay."

Hugo blinked at me. "Oh."

"Besides, who else would my grandfather marry him to? Dante?"

"His golden boy?" Hugo snorted. "I doubt it."
