One of my grandfather's bushy gray eyebrows went up. "Do you need to meet him before then? This is an arranged marriage. It doesn't matter what you think of each other as long as you get married." There was a slight curl to his upper lip as he looked me over. "Besides, I didn't think your kind was all that discerning over who they sleep with."

What this guy knew about gay men wouldn't even fill a thimble.

"I'm taking Hugo with me as my second-in-command."

My grandfather waved his hand dismissively. "Take him."

Thank god.

Hugo was not only my best friend, but he worked as my assistant, right-hand man, and backup whenever I needed it. In this violent world, we kept each other alive.

He would enjoy the promotion.

"Go," my grandfather ordered. "Your plane leaves in an hour, and I don't want to see you back here, so you had better not let me down."

That was a threat if I ever heard one.

I kept the file clutched in my hand as I stood up, gave my grandfather a quick bow, and then walked out of the office as casually as I could manage considering my nerves were jumping through the roof.

I just wasn't sure if they were jumping because I was elated that I was finally getting out of Colombia or because I was stunned that I was about to marry a man I had never met, and wouldn't meet until I married him.

I didn't have time to figure it out either. I needed to grab my stuff, inform Hugo we were moving to the United States, and why, and then get to the airport in time.

I hoped there was alcohol on that airplane.

As I had been on guard duty for most of the last twenty-four hours, I wasn't exactly sure where Hugo was at right now, so it took me a good ten minutes to track him down. Luckily for me, he was enjoying his morning coffee on the veranda.

"Hugo," I called out as I approached him.

"Why aren't you in bed?" the man asked as he turned toward me. "Didn't you just get off guard duty?"

I ignored his question and stated, "You need to pack everything you own in the next thirty minutes."

Hugo's eyebrows lifted. "May I ask why?"

"We are headed to Brooklyn, and we are not coming back."

Hugo's jaw dropped, but at least my grandfather wasn't here to see it. "Brooklyn, New York? That Brooklyn?"

"My grandfather has put me in charge of Brooklyn. I'm taking you as my second-in-command, but we have to leave for the airport in thirty minutes. If we're late, we lose our chance to get out of here."

"I'll meet you out front in twenty." Hugo thrust his coffee cup into my hand and then raced past me.

I refused to let a good cup of coffee go to waste and I needed the caffeine. I swallowed all of it down in just a few gulps, carried the cup to the kitchen, and then went to hunt down my belongings.

I had no intention of ever coming back here, so I wanted to make sure I had everything I owned before I left. I doubted my grandfather or anyone else would be kind enough to send me anything I might leave behind.

There was nothing in my room, not a single stick of furniture, a knick-knack, or item of clothing. There wasn't even dust. There was nothing but a big empty room.

How had they done this? I had only been on guard duty for twenty-four hours. Maybe that was why I had been assigned guard duty for so long, so my grandfather could order all my belongings packed up without me arguing.

Like I was going to argue. I'd marry Satan himself if it meant I got to get out of here. Being the boss of Brooklyn was a bonus.
