Sam didn't.

"So, why did you call in your favor, Jake?" Dmitri asked.

"Alejandro is an old frat brother to us," Jake started. "He was recently put in charge of Brooklyn."

Dmitri's eyes widened for just a moment. "Does that mean Martinez is out?"

"It does," Jake said.

"To be honest," I started, "I'm not so sure of that."

"What?" Jake asked. "You told us your grandfather was putting you in charge of Brooklyn."

Had he forgotten our conversation at the bar already? "And he is, but I doubt he wants me to keep it."

"Explain," Dmitri ordered.

"My grandfather hates my very existence." I really didn't want to go into this, but I didn't see any other way. "Ten years ago when I was attending the university, my grandfather made a surprise visit to see me. He walked in on me in an intimate position with a guy I had picked up at a party the night before."

There were several snorts of disgust. I just wasn't sure if they were aimed at me or my grandfather. Considering who these men were married to, I was betting on my grandfather.

"As you can imagine, he was not pleased." Enraged would be a more apt description. "He ordered me back to Columbia that very day and told me I was never to leave again."

"So, why are you here then?" Dmitri asked.

I chuckled ruefully. "That is the million-dollar question."

"That is why we need your help," Jake supplied. "While Andro was put in charge of Brooklyn by his grandfather, it came with stipulations. One of them being he has to send a set amount of money home every quarter."

"That's pretty normal," Vinnie said. "I have a set amount I am required to send to Italy every quarter."

"Same with me," Dmitri stated. "I think it is the same with King as well."

"King?" I asked, not familiar with that name.

"Angus King," Vinnie said. "He's in charge of Queens."

"A king for Queens." I chuckled. "That strangely makes sense."

Lucas snickered. "Right?"

"The other stipulation is that I have to marry the grandson of one of my grandfather's old friends." After meeting Delancy in person, I wasn't sure how I felt about that. "His name is Delancy Matisse III. I'm sure you've heard of him."

No one said anything for a moment.

"Man," Vinnie finally whispered. "I wouldn't want to be you."

"I'm not worried about Delancy. I can handle him." And already had. "It's the money I have to send back to Columbia that is the issue. I refuse to be involved in drugs, prostitution, or human trafficking, which doesn't leave me a lot of options."

"We thought maybe shipping," Lucas said.

Jake shook his head. "I don't know much about your businesses, and I don't want to. That being said, shipping won't make you a lot of money. I do enough business around the world to know you have to have a pretty big operation just to break even."

"What else is there?" I asked. "Each of you have your own areas that you cover, and I don't want to start off this life by stepping on anyone's toes."

"If I remember correctly," Lucas stated, "Martinez owns a construction business."

"If he does, I haven't heard of it." I would have remembered that. "But even if he does, I'm not sure I'd gain control of it just because I took over Brooklyn."
