I leaned between the front seats and looked at the terrified woman in the driver’s seat. “Wren.”

She nodded. “Yeah?”

“Don’t drive off the bridge.”

Her eyes shot to mine and she glared at me. “That’s your great advice?”

I reached across her and pulled her belt into place. “Yeah, don’t get dead.”

Just as I turned, Fox tossed me the launcher. I caught it and butted it up against my shoulder as he got the grenades.

He climbed back over and frowned. “I really think I should be doing that.”

“Fox!”

“Fine,” he grumbled.

I snatched the grenade out of his hands and loaded the launcher, then fired. The grenade went long, hitting behind the truck.

“You missed!”

“I know I missed,” I shouted.

“How the fuck did you do that?” he snapped, handing me another.

“Because we’re in a fucking moving vehicle!”

“What are you firing?” Wren shouted.

“Keep it steady!” Fox ordered her.

“The road’s ending!” she screamed. “We’re gonna die!”

I lined up the target one final time, drowning out the sounds of Wren screaming, then fired. The truck blew up, taking out the bike with it. The minivan swerved, nearly sending me out the side door as we screeched to a stop. Dust kicked up all around us as silence descended. I was pushed into the back of the front seat on an angle, and that’s when I realized we were on an embankment.

“Wren—”

“Oh my God!” she screamed, unhooking her belt. She flung the door open before I could stop her and leapt from the van.

My eyes widened as I turned to Fox in horror as the van started forward and downhill. “Shit!”

I scrambled for the side door as Fox headed for the back. I jumped out just as the van went over the edge, falling to the water down below.

WREN

I landed in the dust, then heard a creaking sound and spun. I clapped a hand over my mouth as I watched the minivan roll forward on the side of the bridge, right toward the edge of the embankment.

“Shit!” I shouted, jumping to my feet. I pressed my hands to my head as I watched the guys scramble to get out of the minivan. I pressed my fist to my mouth and turned away, unable to watch.

“Holy shit!” Fox shouted.

I spun back around and watched as he leapt out of the back just as the van went over the edge. I rushed forward and grabbed him, helping him to his feet. “Where’s Brock?”

He tossed his head back and laughed, clapping me on the back with more force than necessary. “That was…you’re supposed to put the van in park first.”

“What?”
