He chuckled. “Yeah, I can’t believe you bought that.”

“I know I’m gonna regret this,” Lock sighed, taking out his phone. “Fox, I’m sending Brock over…yeah, but no torture…Because I said so. And no Funyuns ether.” Cursing, he turned to me with a scowl. “You got what you wanted. Don’t make me regret it.”

“Wait, Fox already has him?”

“Someone had to take him out.”

Edu started for the door, not even waiting for me. “Hey!” I called after him. “He’s mine!”

“He’s Fox’s, and you know it.”

“Alright, but then he’s mine!”

I wasn’t sure where we were going, but Edu seemed to know exactly where to go, so I followed him. Ten minutes later, we were driving down the road, headed to Fox. I was still pissed that Edu played me like that.

“You know, I thought we were tight.”

“We are. I won’t screw you over.”

“No, you’ll just lie to get your way.”

“Oh, boo hoo,” he mocked me. “Poor Brock had someone lie to him. It’s not like I haven’t done it before.”

“When?” I asked, feeling like our whole relationship was a lie.

“How about every time you ask me if your hair looks okay?”

I gasped in horror. “You don’t think it does?”

“Frankly, I don’t care. It’s weird that you even ask.”

“How is it weird? I thought friends did that for each other.”

“Girl friends do that. Guys do not. That’s like asking if I think your butt looks big.”

I thought about it a moment. “Does it?”

“Oh, for the love of God! I’m not answering that!”

“Why not? Tell me, what is so fucking wrong with you telling me?”

“Besides the fact that you shouldn’t care?” Edu snapped.

“You know, it’s not just women who want to look nice. Men should care about their looks also.”

“I care about my looks. I just don’t ask other men if I look nice.”

“Well, if you did, maybe you would know what I really think about that yellow vest.”

Gasping, he turned to me. “What’s wrong with my yellow vest?”

“You mean, other than the fact that it’s bright fucking yellow?”

“It’s so I can be seen!”

“Which is great in our profession. Yes, when we’re out on jobs, I always want to be sure my enemy can see me.”

He scoffed. “Clearly, it’s not meant to be worn on jobs. I got it for cool weather.”
