“Now we just have to get him back in the air after Edu kills him. We’ll need Max to fly the plane so we can shove Scottie out from a high enough altitude so his body will be unrecognizable.”

“Like hamburger,” I added.

“Exactly. But you know, one problem…If his plane crashed, that means we need the plane to go down with Scottie.”

That wasn’t a problem. “So, we send Max up with him and forget to tell him the full plan. He’s the new guy. No one will miss him.”

“Besides his wife,” he pointed out.

“Yeah, but they’re not really married. It doesn’t count. And Cash won’t be mad because he won’t have to pay death benefits.”

“True. Now…who else could we get rid of?” Lock asked.

“What?”

“Oh, nothing. I was just thinking out loud.”

Yeah, he was all by the book until someone came up with an idea that would make his life easier. Now, we all had to worry about being put on that plane with Scottie.

The phone started beeping as we got closer. We were just outside of the city when we spotted him, walking along the side of the road and dragging his parachute with him.

“Dude, what is he doing? Why didn’t he wrap it up?” I asked. “Pull over.”

Edu stopped ahead of us as we pulled to the side of the road. I got out and pushed my sunglasses on top of my head as I approached. “How’s it goin’, buddy?”

He glared at me. “I see you landed safely,” he said, still dragging his parachute.

“Yeah, funny story…” I chuckled. I nodded at his chute. “So, uh…why didn’t you fold it up?”

“You want to know why?” He spun and flung the chute open. “This is why.”

I gasped in horror, covering my eyes at what I saw. Lock rushed up behind me, then ducked, hiding his face in my back.

“Yeah, still think this is a funny story?”

I opened my eyes, looking at the birds lying on his chute. “How many did you hit?”

“Five. Do you know how rare it is to see one bald eagle, let alone five? They weren’t even all together. I felt like I was playing a fucking pinball machine.”

“Yeah, and it’s illegal to kill those,” I pointed out.

“I know!” he snapped. “They’re tagged!”

“So, why are you dragging them with you?”

“Because I didn’t know what else to do! I could go to prison for this.”

“Yeah, but it’s not like you intentionally killed them.”

He stared at me like I was stupid. “Five. There are five dead eagles. In what world would I walk before a judge and convince him that I fell out of the sky and accidentally hit five fucking bald eagles, and he would believe me?”

“Well, no one would have known if you hadn’t taken them with you,” Lock muttered.

“Thanks,” Edu snapped. “I’ll keep that in mind the next time I’m tricked into jumping out of a plane!”

“Ooh!” I snapped my fingers. “I have an idea. We’ll stick the parachute on Scottie and call the police. He’ll get caught and you’ll be off the hook!”

He paused, cocking his head slightly. “I like it.”
