“You’re right,” he chuckled. “I’m a bachelor and will be for the rest of my life.”

“Oh, that’s just ridiculous,” Lock snorted. “You’ll fall just as hard as the rest of us.”

“After seeing this?” he pointed at me. “The man is lying in bed with three holes in his chest. He died on the table twice, and for what? She walked out of here without a word to him.”

“She spoke to me in my sleep,” I grumbled.

“Yeah, she said goodbye,” Edu huffed. “She sounds like a real winner.”

“She is,” I said, my gaze snapping to his.

“Yep, that’s why she left.”

“She left because she was being manipulated. When I get out of here, the first thing I’m going to do is find her.”

“You don’t have to look far. Just find the closest mansion. I heard her father even found a new husband for her.”

My blood boiled with every word he spoke. She couldn’t have a new husband. It wasn’t possible. “How do you know?”

“Oh, I had Rae reactivate the system in their house. I figured you needed an inside scoop.”

“You actually heard that?” I asked, swallowing hard.

“Yep. I checked out the guy, too. He’s no Bryce, but it doesn’t look like he’ll have her kidnapped either.” He turned for the door, then looked back at me with a grin. “You know, you and Bryce have more in common than you think.”

“In what way?”

“You kidnapped her. He had her kidnapped…it’s like her thing with men.”

I flipped him off. “Go flip your pages somewhere else.”

He sighed, shaking his head. “So, you’re still going after her?”

I knew it was wrong. She walked out on me. She put that asshole’s ring on her finger. There was no possible reason I should still want her. And yet…I couldn’t walk away. “I couldn’t, even if I wanted to.”

His grin grew even wider as he reached for the door. “Good to hear. Oh, you have a visitor.”

He jerked the door open and Wren stood there, staring at me with tears in her eyes. She didn’t look as dressed up as she normally did and her hair was down around her shoulders the way I liked it. She had never looked so perfect.

“You knew?” I asked Edu.

“Hey, who was the guy who helped you kidnap her?”

“Fox.”

“I get none of the credit around here,” he said as he walked out of the room.

Wren slowly walked over to me, her eyes glistening in the light. I could see the hesitation on her face. Maybe she was here to tell me goodbye.

My eyes dropped to her left hand, but there was no ring on her finger. “So, you decided he wasn’t worth it.”

She glanced down at her bare finger and shrugged. “Well, he is dead.”

“Heard you found a replacement.”

She cleared her throat, stepping closer. I was itchy not knowing what her real intentions were. “Well…my father did.”

“And? Is he everything you were hoping for?”
