“Nice and secluded,” he continued. “Of course, ours was right by a nice town.”

“Fox, the perimeter?—”

“Any chance they have a tearoom in town? Not that I really like them, but Anna loved it. You could take Wren. Maybe it would remove the stick from her ass.”

“Fox!” I shouted, finally drawing his attention. “Go. Check. The perimeter.”

“Oh, right.” He winked at me like we were sharing a secret. “Give you a chance to bring her around. Gotcha.”

He disappeared through the doors, leaving me alone with Wren. When I turned and faced her, she wasn’t amused. “Wren?—”

“Don’t think for a second that because you brought me to a nice house that I’ll suddenly fall for you. I haven’t forgotten the fact that you took me from my home in the middle of the night. I should be there with my father right now.”

“I did it?—”

“For my own good,” she said sarcastically. “Yeah, I’ve heard that before.”

“From your father? Let me guess,” I said, stalking toward her. “Those letters were for your own good. They were to draw attention to you—to make you more appealing after Bryce fucked some woman in public. Tell me,” I said, stopping just inches from her. “Why the fuck is it okay for your father to put you in that position, but when I’m trying to keep you safe, it’s wrong?”

She opened her mouth but was lost for words.

“That’s right. You like the spotlight. You like knowing that everyone’s paying attention to you. In fact, you like it so much, you were able to brush off the fact that someone might have gotten onto your property to kill you.” I huffed out a laugh. “It’s amazing what some people are willing to overlook.”

“There was no intent to harm,” she snapped, holding her ground.

I stared into her fiery eyes, wishing I could get her to see what was right in front of her. There was something between us, something I could no longer deny even if I wanted to. I tried to think of her as just a job. I tried to pretend that she was just some rich woman who only wanted me for my body. But it didn’t work.

I brushed my thumb along her lower lip, knowing all it would take was one kiss and I would be lost. “You know…I tried to tell myself that you were all wrong for me. No…that’s not true. I know you’re wrong for me. I don’t give a fuck about having my picture in the paper. I don’t care about what others think of me.”

“You—” She gasped as I slid my hand around her neck, gripping it tightly as I pulled her body against mine.

“What about me?” I murmured.

She swallowed hard, fighting the attraction. We both knew it didn’t make sense, but it was still there. “You like to look pretty. You care about your appearance.”

A small grin tugged at my lips. “I have a comb in my back pocket right now. But you take away all the facial creams and the nice clothes, and I’m still the same man underneath. I know who I am. I know what I want out of life. Can you say the same?”

Her eyelids fluttered as I wrapped my arm around her body, trapping her against me. My thumb brushed against her pulse point, feeling the erratic beat of her heart. She could deny it all she wanted, but there was something between us. Lust…love…whatever it was, she couldn’t just push me away. It would still be there in every look.

“I tried to keep my distance,” I muttered, brushing my tongue along the column of her neck. “I tried to push down the want. The need.” I bit her shoulder, eliciting a gasp from her. “The desire.” My hands were all over her, running along her spine, gripping her neck and holding her in place. Just touching her drove me insane. “I told myself this would never work between us. We’re not the same.”

Her hands came up to push me away, but it was a feeble attempt. She was just as lost in my touch as I was whenever she looked at me.

I slid my hand up the front of her neck and forced her to look at me. Her eyes fluttered again as I added slight pressure. “And now?”

“And now I don’t care,” I said, slamming my lips to hers.

She sucked in a breath, opening for me as I slid my tongue inside and took what I wanted. Her hands wrapped around my neck and her legs wound around my waist as I picked her up and carried her over to the table, spreading her out for my pleasure. I tore off her pants, tossing them on the floor, then ripped her shirt down the center.

Her eyes dilated as they focused on my every move. Nothing could stop me right now from taking what I wanted. And I knew she wanted me just as much.

My mouth slid over every inch of her squirming body, licking and sucking and taking everything I wanted from her. There was no way for her to deny what we both wanted. “Tell me you want this,” I murmured against her skin.

“Brock,” she gasped as I slid my tongue over her dripping pussy.

“Tell me right now. I want to hear it on your lips.”

“It’s not…it’s not that simple.”
