“This is how the day starts?”

“This life never sleeps, Nova.”

Nova nodded. Linc brushed his lips to hers. Probably the softest and sweetest good morning kiss he could remember since the last time he kissed Nova like that years ago. Same could be said for Nova. She sat up and sipped her coffee.

Linc sat on the edge of the bed, head turned, marveling at the natural beauty Nova possessed. It was no wonder Linc had to ink her. The outlaws out there in the clubhouse would have gone through her and then came back for seconds and thirds.

But she was his. All his. For good measure, Linc moved the blanket off Nova’s leg to see the tattoo.

“How’s it feel?” Linc asked.

“Itchy,” Nova said. “So what’s going on today?”

“We’re handling an issue,” Linc said. “Have to go check out a house.”

“Right. So you’re going to be totally vague. Why even talk about it then?”

“Nova, we have a balance in this town with a lot of things. Stuff most don’t even know or want to know. There’s this stuff called yellow bunny. It’s a mix of some nasty drugs. It’s yellowish in color and it makes you fucking crazy. But it can kill you just as fast. We’re going to check out a house of someone who had it on them. We have a handful of guys going. The rest are hanging back here to run protection on the clubhouse.”

Nova gasped.

“There’s no danger, darling. Not here. It’s just a precaution.”

“Says the guy with a bullet hole in his shoulder.”

“Exactly my point. Things aren’t always what they seem.”

“What are you getting at, Linc?”

“I have to figure out what to do with you, Nova. To keep you safe and sound. I can keep you locked in this room all day.”

“No. This room is messy. There’s other women’s panties and bras on the floor still. I must be a fucking idiot to be in this bed knowing that.”

Linc touched Nova’s chin. “You’re the only one that matters to me. Only one that ever did. Only one person in this world is wearing my initials.”

Nova exhaled and felt her cheeks becoming hot.

“Darrow said something about your brother and being near some bad guys.”

“You think my brother is at this house? Or has something to do with it?”

“Not sure.”

“Then I’m going with you, Linc.”

“No, you’re not.”

“You said you’re going to check it out.”

“What do you think that really means, darling?” Linc asked.

Now Nova’s cheeks turned red for a different reason.

“And where exactly is this house?” Nova asked.

“In town. You know where Elmwood is?”

Nova nodded. “That’s not exactly a drug area.”
