“Shh, shh, you’re alright, you’re alright.” Sazahk brushed Garin’s sweaty hair from his forehead and smoothed the heel of his palm over the tight muscles of Garin’s back. “I love you. I love you so much, beyond what I understood the mind to be capable of.”

He spoke so quietly Garin didn’t think the words were entirely meant for him to hear, but they trickled into his soul and warmed him until he thought he might cry from the pure, unsullied joy of it. He hadn’t cried since he was eleven years old, but Sazahk whispering earnest, heartfelt declarations of love into his hair almost brought him to tears.

He sniffled and wiped his face to make sure none had appeared and spent all his restoring strength to push himself up onto his arms. “Did you come?”

Sazahk laughed softly and glanced down at their filthy bellies. “I think you might be able to figure that out for yourself.”

Garin blushed, which at least pulled some of his blood supply back toward his brain. “Right.” He slipped off Sazahk to lie at his side and traced a finger up Sazahk’s flat belly and through his still warm spend. “God, you’re gorgeous.”

Dark green with streaks of yellow and a touch of orange followed Garin’s finger. “Arousal, satisfaction, and fulfillment at the sight of a partner covered in sexual release is well documented, but I admit I didn’t understand it before.”

“And now?” Garin had experienced said arousal, though he’d never questioned it, but it had never felt like this. Nothing with Sazahk felt like anything he’d ever felt with anyone else. To see the evidence of Sazahk’s pleasure went beyond tawdry self-satisfaction.

“Now, I admit, I am beginning to recognize the appeal.” Sazahk tangled a finger in the hair below Garin’s belly button, where Sazahk’s own cum dried. Garin’s lower belly lurched despite his exhaustion. “But also why the theory is perhaps more enjoyable than the actuality.”

Garin chuckled as a congealing drop of semen slipped from Garin and onto Sazahk. “It’s a short-lived treat.” Then he yelped when something warm and wet landed on his hip. He twisted around to see a tentacle swaying over the washcloth it had just dropped on him.

“Indeed.” Sazahk smirked as he plucked a washcloth from a second tentacle and wiped off his stomach while a third cleaned off his hole.

“Someone’s gotten used to their—” Garin’s snarky comment about Sazahk’s flex metal system gave way to a gasp when cold metal parted his cheeks and a fourth washcloth swiped over his entrance. “Oh, shit.” Garin curled into Sazahk’s body as his rim twitched and sent lazy curls of arousal up his spine.

“Someone merely has no desire to get out of bed.” Sazahk wrapped his arms around Garin once the flex metal receded. “And no compelling reason to.”

“Do you have a compelling reason to stay in bed?” Garin nestled into Sazahk’s side, his eyes slipping closed.

“Oh, yes. Very.” Sazahk pressed a kiss to the top of Garin’s head and a smile curled Garin’s lips. As their bodies turned heavy with sleep, Garin realized he was happy.

Truly, simply happy.

And that made him excruciatingly sad. He was sad to be leaving in the morning, sad to hurt Sazahk, and sad to hurt himself. He had done so many things in his life that he’d known weren’t right for him: the military academy, the Vanguard, the long years away from his family. And they had all hurt, but none of them like this.

Maybe because nothing he had ever given up had felt as good as Sazahk’s arms.

Chapter Twenty-Two

Garin woke warm, except for the heavenly cool line along his left side, and comfortable, except for a certain delicious soreness. He rolled into the body beside him, his ass twinging, and tucked his head under Sazahk’s chin.

Sazahk murmured unintelligibly and tightened his arms around Garin’s waist.

Was this how they should have woken every morning in the Dead Zone? Garin chuckled. Probably not.

“What amuses you?” Sazahk’s lips ruffled Garin’s hair.

“I was just thinking that maybe it’s a good thing we didn’t learn how to do all this back in the Dead Zone.” Garin hid his face in Sazahk’s neck. “I’m not sure my body could take that kind of beating at night and still perform its duties during the day.”

Sazahk’s hands slid down his spine and cupped his ass. “Did I hurt you?”

“No.” Garin sprawled an arm over Sazahk’s chest, pressing his morning erection against Sazahk’s hip. “Only in good ways.”

Sazahk chuckled and slipped a finger into his crack to toy with his still-loose rim. “It was gratifying to so successfully implement my theories on what might please you.”

“‘Successfully’ is an understatement.” Garin rolled his hips lazily into Sazahk’s body as he kissed along his collarbone.

Sazahk plunged his finger into Garin’s hole. “Are you after more?”

“Just a little.” Garin panted into the hollow of Sazahk’s throat, his mind clouded with the remnants of sleep and burgeoning lust. “If that’s okay.”

“It’s more than okay.” Sazahk pulled his finger from his hole and grabbed Garin’s hips. He tugged Garin on top of him, lining up their cocks. “I’ve wanted to experiment with your morning tumescence since the first night we slept together.”
