“Shut up, bitch nigga,” I countered, trying to hide my smile.

“Aye, you ain’t got shit to worry about. No homo, but you’re a handsome, paid, suave ass nigga. There’s no way she’s gon’ turn you down. Besides, with my wife’s finessing ass in her ear, I guarantee she’s not saying no.”

I sighed and nodded while taking a shot to the head. I gave both of them a pound then ran my hands down my white button up.

“You got this, bro,” Ashton said, rubbing my shoulders.

I walked over to Rabbit who was standing next to her mother and Pure. I leaned down and whispered in her ear, letting her know that I was ready. She smiled and walked to the rise separating the living room from the kitchen. She looked like a baby doll in her navy-blue De La Renta gown and her hair pulled up in a big bun with a bow. I smiled when she cleared her throat and spoke.

“Hello everyone! My name is Makari Amelle Stanton. We invited you guys here because my Papa Ahmad has a surprise for my mommy. But first we want to sing a song.”

I walked over to my grand piano, placed Rabbit on top of it, then took my seat on the bench. I closed my eyes then began to play the melody to Jagged Edge’s “Let’s Get Married”.

“See first of all, I know we just met three months ago, but I’ma be real and say what’s on my heart. Let’s take this chance and make this love feel relevant, didn’t you know I loved you from the start, yeah?”

I didn’t open my eyes until Rabbit took the chorus with her little squeaky voice. I smiled proudly because she was the dopest, smartest kid I ever had the pleasure of meeting. We had only been working on her part of the song a few hours ago and she already had it down pact.

“Meet me at the altar in your white dress, we ain’t getting no younger, so we might as well do it. Been feeling all the while girl, I must confess. Let’s get marriiiied.”

I looked over at Bunny and she was smiling and had tears in her eyes. I gave Rabbit a high five and kissed her cheek as everyone applauded. The only person that knew I had this talent was my brother. I told him if he ever told anybody my secret, I’d bury him in cement and tell our parents his ass met an African lady and ran off to Africa. I took a deep breath then walked over to Nala. From the way she smiled, I was confident she wouldn’t make me look crazy tonight, and that I was making the right decision.

“Your man owes me big time for getting me and this belly on a plane last minute,” Pure said as we stood in the kitchen. “You’re lucky I wanted to see you and that cute little munchkin of yours.”

I smiled. “I’m glad you came. I could use a little girl time.”

“Well come closer so we can gossip.”

I giggled as I moved closer to her.

“Now, who is that big booty chick Ashton’s talking to?”

“Latrice, my supervisor.”

“You think he’s gonna hit that?”

“I doubt it. She has a sorta kinda boyfriend that’s a doctor at the hospital.”

“A sorta kinda boyfriend? What the hell is that?”

“Everybody knows they’re an item, but if you ask either of them about it, they deny it.”

“Oh, hell no! That’s like leaving the door open for jail time. You better claim me.”

I giggled. “I agree.”

“My cousin had no problem claiming you though.” She playfully nudged me.

“We are too old to be playing games, girl. I know it’s only been three months, but it feels like forever. Last night he asked me would I marry him if he asked me one day.”

“Awwww, pooh! What did you say?”

“I said yes.”
