I wasn’t expecting that. I guessed after not coming around them the past few years, they finally caught on that I wasn’t fucking with them no more. The tall figure emerging from the back of the house caused me to stand tall with my head held high. Mason Pryor walked up to me and stared at me for about ten seconds. His eyes that matched my own bore into me before he grabbed me by the back of my head and pulled me into his arms. Yeah, these motherfuckas was on some weird shit, but I allowed them to hug me.

“It’s good to see you, Ahmad.”

“Yeah, you too.” He released me as my eyes went to Ashton who stood smiling like the ho ass nigga he was.

“Mommy, did you cook? Ahmad says he misses your cooking. Right, bro?”

“Nah, yo’ greedy ass is just hungry. Don’t put me in your hunger pains.”

Both my parents laughed.

“I actually did. I hope you all are hungry. I made a big pot of gumbo.”

“Mmm, sounds delicious,” Ash said, licking his lips.

“Why don’t we wash up and catch up? It’s been a minute since we’ve all sat at the dinner table together,” my pops said.

“Will you be staying for dinner, son?” my mom asked.

I sighed as my eyes perused the house. It was different from what I remembered since they had gotten new furniture, but the one thing that didn’t change was the mural of photos in the sitting room.

“I guess it won’t hurt, but I really need to check on my business soon.”

“You can after you eat. We just want to spend a little time with you and catch you up on things while you do the same. I just really miss you, baby.”

I nodded. “Lead the way.” They walked away as Ash and I followed.

“Aren’t you glad you came now?” Ash whispered.

“No. It’s still fuck y’all, for real.”

“You are definitely an asshole.”

Iwas slightly in my feelings after Ahmad left. I couldn’t believe the way he was acting. Staying with him for however much longer was going to be a pain in my ass with him being so fucking fickle. I needed a break from him. One that didn’t include us being in separate rooms in this house.

Speaking of this house, I had to get the hell out of there. Being cooped up for days on end was driving me crazy. I needed sunshine, fresh air, and people. I could feel myself beginning to get triggered once again. Something had to give and it had to give soon.

After giving Kari a bath, I left her to get dressed while I headed for Ahmad’s room. It was a long shot, but maybe he left his door unlocked. Much to my surprise, the door was partially opened. I stepped inside and found everything in clean, pristine condition.

I shook my head. His OCD was mind boggling. The man had a tub of Lysol wipes placed on damn near every flat surface. Every item was lined up from tallest to shortest. Everything was color coordinated or labeled. Constantly doing this would drive me insane.

I stepped further into the room and closed the door. Ahmad had left the burner phone with me. If I could just find the address to this place, I could call a cab or something. I began rummaging through every drawer looking for something with an address. Unfortunately, there was nothing.

Looking around, my eyes settled on the closet door. I hesitated for a moment before going over and opening it.

“Jesus Christ…” I mumbled as my eyes settled on yet another pristine area.

The clothes and shoes were organized by color. Nothing was out of place, not that I expected it to be. On the top racks were a few boxes. One by one, I took them down. One was a sunglasses case. A few of the others were guns. The last one I picked up had papers in it. I shuffled through until I came across the deed to the house with the address printed on it.

Pulling the burner from my pocket, I snapped a photo then put everything back the way I found it and left the closet.

“Mommy!” Kari called.

I quickly exited the bedroom to find her standing in the hallway.
