“You like what I'm wearing right now?” she asked. “Is this your way of telling me that I look absolutely gorgeous?”

“You look breathtaking,” I replied.

“The pink... the curls... the heels… the smile... I feel like working with me has kept you in a box, and I truly can’t wait to see how you fly now.”

“Hmm,” she said, her eyes roving over my face as she played with my hair. She was so affectionate with her touch and in the way she watched me. How had I not noticed this all these months? I was unobservant and obtuse, but it truly amazed me how much more I had missed over the months and years while I had been paying very little attention to anything other than myself.

“Well, now that you’re seeing this, it's nice to know that you're looking forward to seeing more of me.”

This amused me as I kissed her again.

“I'm looking forward to seeing a whole lot more of you.”

She seemed a bit stunned as she stared at me, and then she shook her head to clear it.

“What is it?” I asked.

“I just... I thought I would be doing a lot of apologizing during this lunch and feeling remorseful and extremely sorry.”

“You should feel all those things,” I said, and I meant it. However, I truly couldn't keep the smile off my face. She, however, was able to immediately wipe off hers.

“I do feel all of those things, I swear, but the way you're smiling, the way you're looking at me now, and treating me is making it very difficult.”

“I know,” I said. “Consider this as part of your punishment. Emotional torture.”

“The worst kind,” she said, and I couldn't miss the sadness in her eyes or tone for that matter.

“You’ve really been working me since the beginning of the year, and I had to keep it all in.”

“Sometimes I was sure I was going to lose my mind,” she said, and I held her even more tightly.

We'd come here to fuck, but there was something about the dark, cramped space. The heat seemed intensified, the intimacy, the closeness. I could see, hear, and taste more of her than I was sure I could anywhere else.

“Alright,” she tapped me against the chest as she circled her arms around me. “Before I forget, I made some plans for your meeting today. I was going to ensure that I stayed in contact with your secretary so that I could at least have reasons to speak to you for hours, but it isn't just for fun. You've grown one of the most successful businesses in the country from scratch, and I have learned so much from you. But I have you on speed dial, and I needed to know that you didn't want that to change. For instance, now I think we're going to need investors, and I'm not asking for your money, absolutely not, but I am asking that I be able to come to you with inquiries about business decisions.”

“Your knowledge is extensive, and... I just... your ego, and I can't let you go.”

“Ah,” I said. “So you're just here for my brain and not my body?”

“I'm here for the whole thing,” she replied. “Every single piece. Your brain, your heart, and your body.”

I nodded; however, she couldn't look away from me. Her eyes filled with tears, and then she cradled my face in her hands.

“I’m in love with you, Hunter Swift,” she said. “With all my heart.”

I smiled because as I said the words back to her, I understood in my heart that they were the most true and special words that I had ever said out loud to anyone in my life.

“And I'm in love with you too, Madison Parish.” I replied.

At my words, she seemed shocked, and then she leaned forward once again to kiss. It went on forever, but by the time we pulled away again, all I could think about was the fact that it had been too short. Much too short.

“So... we're officially together now?” she asked, and I nodded in kind.

“We are.”

“Wow, if only I had known?”

“If only you had known what?” I asked.
