“No, it’s my job to read other people's minds and make them as understood as possible.”

“It's eight months of communication,” she warned me.

“Don’t worry, I'm particularly free these days, so I'll start slowly, and that way I'll understand what you need.”

Her eyes softened as she stared at me, and I shook my head.

“Go to bed,” I said. “I’ll give you an update tomorrow.”

“Thank you so much, Maddy,” she sniffed, and the call came to an end.

I picked up the dryer then and got to work with my hair, and a few minutes later, I was done. I wished we could spend the rest of the evening just sleeping, but I was too excited despite being exhausted and didn’t want to waste any moment of the two days we had here.

Everything felt so new and so exciting, even the resort itself. And so, as I got out, I gave my attention fully to the panoramic views of the Andaman Sea.

I quickly took several pictures from where I stood, and then I went in search of Hunter. I soon found him in the sitting area already lounging and waiting.

“Lunch will be here soon,” he said, and I couldn't help but head over to join him. He was shirtless, and it was a sight to behold.

His tattoos were gorgeous, his skin clean and glistening, and his hair slightly blowing in the late afternoon breeze.

“You fit so perfectly into this lifestyle,” I said as I brushed his hair out of his eyes, and he laughed.

“What kind of lifestyle?” he asked. “Idle?”

“Leisurely,” I replied. “You look like a surfer who’s never been out in the sun, or heat for that matter.”

He smiled and doubled over, and I moved even closer to him.

“I love everything I'm hearing. Too bad I'm a boring entrepreneur who deals in renewable energy and spends all his day in an office.”

“Too bad,” I sighed, and he leaned forward to kiss me. Just then, there was a knock on the door, and instantly, he got up.

“I’m starving to death, and that knock indicates that our meal is here. I’ll be right back.”

“Alright,” I replied, feeling a bit weird that he was the one going to answer the door as it was my job. However, once done again, I tried to admonish myself that there was no need to hold on to ideals that went against the current focus of my life for this afternoon, which was to sleep, relax, and take in every single moment without any troublesome hints for further obligations.

Soon, the restaurant staff arrived with our lunch, which was a selection of grilled Andaman lobster, Phuket-style blue crab curry, massaman lamb curry, steamed sea bass in lime sauce, and so on.

I immediately dug in, and we both enjoyed our food as we stared out towards the ocean.

I watched him silently and decided that I hated to share a bit of what I had been talking to Emma about earlier.

“Did you read my resume before you accepted me for the job of being your secretary?” I asked.

“Your resume?” he repeated. “No, I didn’t.”

I wasn’t surprised at this, but in a way, I still was.

“Then how were you sure that you would be okay with me working for you?” I asked. “Back then, Human Resources more or less put the fear of God into me that I was to use my expertise in renewable energy to impress you because you would be scouring through every inch of my CV.”

“I did give it a glance,” he replied. “But ultimately, I'm not even sure how you got hired. You know how my schedule is. One moment I'm reading something, and the next, I'm called away urgently. Perhaps Derek just decided then that you were qualified when he couldn't get me to finish reading enough to give a judgment.”

This amused me. “Remind me to give him a hug when we return,” I said under my breath, and he laughed.

“I don’t need to be reminded,” he said. “I'll give him a hug for the both of us, especially because I know it’ll give him a stroke.”

“I was so worried because I was sure that you would notice that rather than look for a job straight out of college in the renewable energy field, I instead opened a cupcake bakery in Brooklyn.” His eyes widened at this.
