“I’m not. Colby had it coming. I knew. As soon as he told us you were pregnant, Halle, I knew there was no other way out. We didn’t come to peacefully negotiate with him anyway. I was just waiting for the right moment for one of us to put a bullet in his head.”

Chase sighs. “I’m almost sorry I wasn’t the one to do it.”

“Wait,” Wyatt says, trying to process the news he wasn’t inside for. “You’re pregnant?”

I look at him and nod. “I am.”

A wide grin splits his handsome face and I see true happiness in his eyes. It sets the world right again.

“Halle, I love you like I’ve never loved anyone before in my life,” Eric says. “We all love you, and we will do everything in our power to keep you. Do you understand that?”

“I love you,” Chase says the words.

“I happen to love you too,” Wyatt adds with a soft smile and a tremor in his voice. “We’re just hoping it’s mutual at this point.”

I can’t help but laugh lightly. “Are you kidding? I love the three of you so much, it hurts.”

“Good,” Chase says.

“I just can’t believe it’s over,” I manage, my eyes wet and my chest full of things I can’t explain. It’s as if my body is finally catching up and experiencing true relief.

“It is over,” Eric says, then points back at the house. “And trust me, it’ll be over for what’s left of the Nash family, too.”

I give him and his brothers a curious look.

“They’ve been taken care of,” Wyatt says.

I’m stumped. “Taken care of?” I raise an eyebrow.

“Come morning, Harriet Nash will get an extreme rude awakening,” Eric says, clearly pleased with himself.

He goes on to tell me all about their entire process of how they found me, from storming Harriet’s office to checking the addresses they managed to get out of her, the brief, but bloody stop at the apartment building where Colby hid right after the BOLO came out, to their final stop here.

I listen in awe and shudder upon hearing the details of what they had to deal with, of what they went through in order to get to me and Sammy and Luna.

The more I learn, the deeper my love grows for them. These men went to hell and back to find me and my kids. They feared nothing expect the prospect of losing us.

What we have is unique. And we have already proven that we’re willing to fight to the end in order to be together. All of my previous attempts to run away fade in the back of my mind.

I will never leave them again.

Halle

The baby is okay.

According to the ultrasound and the slew of tests I underwent, we’re going to be just fine. My heart rate is within normal range and the taser didn’t leave me with any lasting damage.

My pregnancy with Luna was my first and greatest challenge. When I got pregnant with Sammy, I had already overcome some of those pregnancy scares and worrying thoughts. With this little guy or gal, I’m more focused on how to make the next few months as comfortable as possible for the both of us.

“Looks like you’ve got yourself a clean bill of health, missy,” Wyatt quips as he escorts me out of the hospital.

“Thank the stars,” I reply, smiling as I link my arm through his. “Marie is keeping the kids all day, right? I think that’s what she said last night.”

Marie and Steven showed up at the crime scene to pick Luna and Sammy up while we stayed behind and gave our statements to Charlie and his team. The kids were a tad reluctant to leave my side again, but they were also too tired to protest much.

“Yeah. They’re still sleeping, in case you were worried.”
