“Deal. I’ll meet you over there in an hour.”

“Great.” I watched as she practically skipped away.

I checked in with Easton, who was home with Milo and Daisy. She had a few protectors keeping an eye on Tru and while I couldn’t see them, I felt my own protectors close by.

“Everything’s good here, how about you?” Easton asked as I walked toward the NICU floor where I was working for the day.

“Fine. I’m having lunch with a friend in an hour and I won’t be able to call you on my break, so while I was going back to my floor I thought I’d call and say hi.”

I could practically see his smile. “That’s nice. We’re great. Daisy is using Milo and me as guinea pigs for enchiladas for lunch.”

I snorted. “Better you two than me.”

“Real nice.”

I chuckled as I reached the elevators. “Okay, I have to go, about to enter the elevator.”

“See you later.”

I ended the call as the doors opened. I was looking at my screen as I entered and had I not been, I wouldn’t have been caught unaware.

They closed. I hit the button…and nothing happened.

“Great, am I stuck in a flippin’ elevator?”

“I wouldn’t say stuck.”

I spun so fast, I had to brace myself from the motion.

“Zephyr?”

He’d glamoured himself with brown hair and a doctor’s uniform. If it hadn’t been for the fact that he wasn’t hiding he was fae to me, I might have missed it.

“What are you doing, Finch?”

“What do you mean?”

He stepped forward, but I couldn’t go anywhere.

“Falling in love with a human. Do you think in the end the court will side with you? Sure, Arachnis will be punished, but so will you…so will they.”

“He’s a dreamer, Zephyr…so is Milo…a dreamer!”

When I did some research after Daisy left, that was what the books had said. A dreamer: One known in existence, halfling, Willow. Can see the future through dreams. She didn’t realize it but fae had in fact labeled him.

“I read Daisy’s plea to the court.” He shook his head. “This doesn’t end well, Brother.”

If I wasn’t mistaken, there was a sadness in his eyes, regret maybe…pain.

“What have you heard? Please tell me, Zephyr.”

He took a breath and regarded the small space. “He won’t let it go.”

“Father?”

“He’s humiliated, Finch. While Mother isn’t gloating, she’s not surrendering. Arachnis is being held, Amaris is insane and unpredictable. He’s leaning on me but…I don’t do things blindly.”

“You think he’ll disobey the court?”
