Page 72 of Overwhelmed By Love

Jordan takes my hand and leads me to a room at the end of a long hallway. Upon entering, I can see that it’s the largest one out of all the others, and why not, he’s the boss. Original modern art adorns the no glass walls. A battery of windows overlooks the city, and his heavy glass L shaped desk is positioned so he can see out during his workday.

On his desk are a lone laptop and piles and piles of folders. A four-piece bathroom with a closet sits at the back of the room. A long contemporary couch with beige micro suede and two matching side chairs huddle around a smoke glass coffee table. The last thing that catches my eye is a wet bar with dark blue granite and a small stainless steel sink. The glass shelves above hold tumblers and bottles of alcohol in decanters. Jordan sees me looking and asks if I want a drink, but I decline.

“This is some office, but how do you have privacy?”

He says nothing but hits a remote on his desk, and the wall becomes opaque. Then he hits another button, and the glass comes to life with the news.

“You have monitors in the glass?”

“No, it’s projection. The glass doesn’t have to be opaque to view it.”

“Where is the projector?”

“In the ceiling. I have several so I can watch different channels at the same time. It’s how I viewed you at the front door. I have a feed to a closed channel.”

“But you’re so busy. How do you even have a chance to pay attention?”

“I often get restless. It helps calm me. I turn on the financial channels. I need to keep up on the latest trends.”

“And these?” I say, fingering a stack of newspapers on his desk.

“I read each during the course of the day, usually when I’m grabbing a bite to eat if I’m not in a meeting.”

“Very impressive.”

“So you see the perks to working for me. Maybe you would give it some serious thought about coming here. I can switch the staff around so that you have the office next to mine. How would that work?”

“It all sounds lovely, but I need to give it some serious thought. I don’t want to be the woman that got it easy because her boyfriend is the boss.”

“I wouldn’t be easy on you. You would have to toe the mark just like my other employees. I’m tough but fair, and I offer many benefits because they all work hard and deserve it. If they didn’t, they would no longer work for me. Grayson is no place for slackers.”

“I’m not a slacker.”

“I know which is why I want you to work for me. I know what you can do.”

“What? How? Did you talk to Nicky?”

The question gets ignored as the phone on Jordan’s desk rings. I walk away and sit on the couch. I can hear his conversation, and it sounds better than it did when he left the penthouse.

“Good. I’m glad we got this worked out. So just to reiterate, the building is included, and I’ll renovate it depending on the structural report. If engineering says it’s a go, then fine, otherwise, it comes down. Make sure they know that. I’m not spending countless dollars on shoring up a building that would cost less to rebuild. Rework this into the contracts and send them over to their attorney before the end of the day. I don’t want any surprises when we have our meeting on Tuesday morning. Perfect, thanks, Kenji.”

“Who was that?”

“My attorney, Kenji Matano. He’s great. I met him when I was a senior in college. He was in his second year at Yale Law. He graduated top of his class, and by that time, my company was getting off the ground. His father is a partner in Matano, Bronstein, and Dwyer. They’re the firm we use, but Kenji is the one that handles my business specifically. You’ll meet him eventually.”

“Are you leaving soon?”

“Yes. I have a few items to close out, and I should be done in a few minutes. But first, I have to do something before I get to that.”

He takes me in his arms and plants a moist, soft kiss on my lips that makes my body flush with heat. Jordan flutters his mouth along my neck, running the tip of his tongue over the outside of my ear. When he pulls away, I’m once again weak.

“I must let you know that if you work for me, I’m going to have a hard time keeping my hands off you.”

Visions of Nicky screwing the intern pop into my head, and I force them away. Is that what Jordan wants to do? Bend me over his desk and fuck me?

“Maybe it’s not a good idea I work for you then. I don’t want to be a distraction.”

“You could never be considered a distraction.”
