“Some woman, huh?”

“I have monitors in my office, and I turned them on to see who it was. I told them it was my girlfriend and thanks for their concern. Would you like to see my place?”

“Very much so. I looked online, but pictures don’t show how beautiful it is here.”

“Thank you. A friend of mine designed it, Valeria Bottiglio. Have you heard of her before?”

“They did a spread of her work in Luxe.”

Jordan raises his eyebrows, “You read Luxe?”

“No, my friend Hunter does. He works for Lawson Corporation, and it was sitting on the table when I went to hang out with him at his apartment.”

“When was this?” his tone stern.

“About a month ago. You met him and his fiancée, Rory.”

“When did I meet them?”

“At the club. You don’t remember?”

“Doll, all I remember is how beautiful you looked in that dress. I focused on nothing else outside of keeping you in my sight.”

“Well I’m here, now stop being so jealous.”

“I’m not jealous. I just want to know who’s around you. I’ve met Jonathan Lawson before. What department does Hunter work for?”

“Hunter is a Lawson. He’s Jonathan’s son and my brother in law, JC, is also a Lawson.”

“Then we have something in common. I outbid Lawson for the current project I’m working on. I wasn’t aware you were related.”

“Related once removed. I’m not married to him, Lexi is. I guess you can say Hunter is like my brother in law too. He’s watched out for me since I was a teenager.”

“Very interesting. Would you like a tour?”

“Sure. It will be the second one in two days.”

For the next twenty minutes, he takes me around and shows me the space. He even has a game room and a place you can take a quick fifteen-minute nap if you need it. The kitchen area is a wonder with many selections of teas, coffees, and hot chocolate selections for the five Keurig machines that sit on the gleaming white granite countertops. The massive glass door refrigerator holds all kinds of snacks and juices. Acrylic display cases line another counter, and Jordan explains how each morning, fresh donuts, bagels, rolls, and muffins are stocked.

“You take care of your employees.”

“I believe that you take care of them, and they’ll take care of you. Each Friday, I bring in a catered lunch. Most of my employees have been with me since I started this company, and the list is growing. We are getting a bit crowded as we expand, and I might have to look for another floor to occupy besides this one.”

“Aren’t you afraid that too fast expansion can mean trouble?”

“I have analysts to check data regarding that. We’re careful with the moves we make. I’m not branching out with too many new business ventures. I don’t want to overextend our financial capabilities. However, we are doing nicely in all our divisions at the moment. I’m exploring other avenues of investment. It’s another reason why I would like you to come work for me.”

“I already have a job. One that I love.”

“I understand, but I could use someone like you that is hardworking.”

“I know nothing about your business.”

“But you’re a fast learner and very intelligent. I could get you up to speed pretty quickly. We could work closely together.”

“I bet,” I say under my breath.

“I heard that, Emma. Let me show you my office.”
