“Paddleboats? Like the kind you ride with pedals?” I asked, picturing the small, pedal-operated boats.

Oliver laughed. “Those are pedal boats. These are like surfboards.”

“Oh, I know what you mean now. Did they come with the house?”

“No, I purchased them a few days ago. We’re fully stocked for fun. Would you like to see the lake?” he asked, his eyes twinkling.

“I think I’d like a quick shower first. Care to join me?” I suggested, raising an eyebrow.

“You know if I do, we won’t be going to the lake until tomorrow,” Oliver teased, his voice low and playful.

“Why do you always put sex on me? I’m not the one that starts it all the time,” I said, feigning innocence.

“You’re a little minx. You like to tease me into submission.”

I snorted. “I tease you into submission? I think you have it backward.”

“Take a shower, Mrs. Fox,” Oliver commanded, lifting our suitcases onto the powder blue padded bench at the end of the bed.

I noticed that Vlad must have brought them in while we were touring the downstairs. Oliver unzipped his suitcase and removed a pair of green swim trunks. I stripped out of my pink sundress and removed my panties and bra, feeling his eyes on me from the corner of his eye as I padded into the bathroom naked.

The warm water cascaded over my skin, washing away the weariness from our trip. Moments later, I felt Oliver’s presence behind me. He wrapped his arms around my waist, pressing his body against mine.

“You couldn't resist, could you?” I murmured, leaning back into his embrace.

“Not when my wife is this irresistible,” he whispered, his lips grazing my ear.

His hands roamed over my body, igniting a fire within me. I turned to face him; our bodies pressed together under the stream of water.

“I thought you said we wouldn’t see the lake until tomorrow if you joined me,” I teased, kissing his neck.

“Plans change,” he replied, capturing my lips in a deep kiss.

We lost ourselves in each other, the outside world forgotten. The water continued to pour over us, a soothing backdrop to our shared passion. When we finally emerged from the shower, the sun had begun to set, casting a golden glow through the bathroom window.

Oliver handed me a towel, his eyes never leaving mine. “Ready to see the lake?”

Chapter 31

“I love this place. Thank you for buying it,” I said, readjusting my sunglasses as we stood on the dock, taking in the serene view.

“I’m glad I could accommodate you. I want you to be happy,” Oliver replied, his gaze softening as he looked at me.

“I am happy, you jerk,” I said, playfully nudging him.

“Jerk?” he repeated, raising an eyebrow.

“I missed you,” I confessed, my voice filled with emotion.

“For that, I am a jerk. I agree,” he said, his tone turning serious. “But it will never happen again. Till death do us part.”

“I don’t want to think about death. We came close enough,” I said, a shiver running down my spine at the memory.

“I’ll never let anything happen to you,” Oliver vowed, pulling me into a tight embrace.

I nestled into his chest, feeling the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. “Promise?”

“Promise,” he whispered, kissing the top of my head.
