CHAPTER 28

AUSTIN

The very smug grin I wore bordered on obnoxious as I stood in front of Greer’s sister. The look on her face showed maybe she fucking got the message he’d been trying to send to her from the beginning.

“I’m sorry,” she whispered as my husband hugged her.

“I know you are, Kat. But you can’t control everything.”

She pulled back and looked at Greer. “Did you do this because of me? Did you jump into a marriage because I brought them?” She gestured toward the window where her friends sat observing us like fish in an aquarium.

“No,” we both said, simultaneously.

My husband looked at me with all the love and adoration I felt for him. “We’ve loved each other for a very long time, Katherine. But the time wasn’t right.”

“But Sabrina...”

“...is a wonderful woman, but she knew I didn’t love her that way before we got married. I needed to try to move on. He was only twenty-two and heading to the Navy. She needed her parents off her back and didn’t love me that way, either. Like I told you, we were always better off as friends.”

She nodded, then wiped her eyes. “But the baby.”

“Wasn’t meant to be,” he said softly, the heartbreak clear in his words. “If the baby had lived, we still would have eventually divorced and shared custody.”

Katherine looked over at me. “I suppose I owe you an apology.”

I smiled. “For what? Trying to set my husband up on two dates?”

She sighed. “You’re going to be a smartass, aren’t you?”

I laughed and reached for her. “What kind of brother-in-law would I be if I wasn’t? Besides, I know you love him. Just try to remember that I do, too.”

Katherine patted my shoulder. “Okay, Allen. I’ll try.”

We all laughed at her failed attempt to push my buttons. There was no way a five-foot-five dynamo was going to steal my happiness. Nothing could, except for one little niggling fact I hadn’t shared with Greer yet, but I’d do that when we got home.

“We’d like to keep our marriage a secret until after the wedding. We don’t want to take any attention away from Elizabeth and Daniel.”

Katherine nodded and wiped at her eyes again as she pulled away. “Okay, I agree. But you know she’ll be very happy for you. You’re her favorite uncle.”

I smiled at her when she side-eyed me warily.

“You better go call off the dating game out there, sis,” I said to her. “Or I can do it for you.”

“No,” she said, walking away toward the door. “I’ll handle it. You two just go... do whatever. The rehearsal is at six, then dinner afterward.”

I picked up the brown envelope and took Greer’s hand, pulling him toward the stairs. “Great! Then we’ll be upstairs for a while. We need to work out.”

She stopped and turned to look over her shoulder, the area between her eyes pinched together. “But the gym is downstairs.”

I nodded. “Yeah, I know. But we need to stretch out first. We wouldn’t want to pull a muscle.” I wiggled my brows at her.

Katherine’s eyes rolled up into her hairline, then fell closed as she let out a heavy sigh. She shook her head, then returned to the veranda. It was going to be so much fun torturing her, because where I came from, paybacks were hell.

Taking the stairs two at a time, I needed to get him alone in our bedroom as soon as possible. My insatiable need for my husband was never-ending.

When the door closed behind us, I dropped the envelope to the floor and pressed my husband to the door. I ravaged his mouth as his cock thickened along mine. I widened my stance and rubbed myself all over him.

Greer pulled back to breathe as I kissed down his neck, biting and licking the pain away. “Clothes. Off.”
