“Are you sure? Not dizzy or anything?”

“No, just hurry up and get back in here with me. I’ve missed you.”

The expression on his face changed, but I couldn’t read it. When he finally crawled back into bed and placed his head on my chest, the world was right.

“Stop thinking and go to sleep, babe. Everything’s going to be alright.”

After we finally got out of bed, my stomach was growling. Since it wasn’t safe for me to be in there alone, Cole had to shower with me. The warm water and his hands on me were miracle workers, and I felt relaxed and hungry.

I went into my closet and flipped the light on. The custom closet system we shared in the massive space looked almost empty.

“Babe, where are all our clothes?”

Cole walked in, toothbrush still in hand, and looked around. “Uh, mine are still boxed up from before the tour.”

I was confused. “You took all your clothes on tour? How long were you planning to be gone?”

“No.” He looked up at me with another expression I couldn’t read. “I don’t have that many, so that’s probably why it looks so empty. All I wear are jeans and t-shirts, remember?”

He walked in and looked at my side of the hanging space. “Where are your clothes?”

I put my hand on my head and pinched the bridge of my nose. “I have no fucking idea. Brain injury, remember?”

The minute it came out of my mouth, I regretted it. Cole looked so hurt, and I’d put that look there.

“I’m sorry,” I sighed. “You didn’t deserve that. You’ve done nothing but take care of me. Please forgive me, baby.”

Cole stared up at me for a moment before he nodded. “I know, babe. I don’t know why I asked that. I’ll find you something to put on. Jeans or sweats?”

He stuck his toothbrush back into his mouth and waited. “Sweats.”

Nodding, he went to my drawer and pulled out a pair. Reaching up, he pulled out a t-shirt. “This okay?”

I nodded and opened my arms. He dropped them on the floor and came over to me. I took him in my arms and held him close. “I’m sorry, babe.”

He smiled and kissed me gently. “It’s okay. It will get better. Just gonna take some time.”

Kissing his forehead, I let him go. He picked up my clothes and carried them to the bed.

“Need my help?”

“No. I need to do it.”

“I’ll be in the bathroom if you need me.”

I smiled, and he went back to finish brushing his teeth.

Looking around our room, it looked so empty. It almost looked like no one had lived here for a while. As if out of the blue, what I thought was a memory flashed into my brain.

I dressed and walked into the foyer. For some reason, I was drawn to go upstairs. I made it three steps before Cole found me.

“Uh, where are you going?”

My gaze found him. “I think my clothes are up there.”

Cole glanced up at the second floor. “Really? Okay. I’ll go see.”

I admired his ass in his jeans as he climbed the stairs. When he came back a minute later carrying a handful of my clothes, I frowned again.
