“I don’t have one on me, but if you go to our website and send an email, I’ll have my team send you a t-shirt and a signed poster from all of us. Would that be okay?”

His eyes lit up as the elevator came to a stop. “Yeah, thanks!”

I gave the kid a fist bump as the elevator stopped on our floor. “You’re welcome, Kaden.”

“Could I get a selfie?”

I smiled as he pulled out his phone. Turning on the camera, I took the phone, held it out, and took a picture of us. Handing it back, I followed Simon out.

“I hope Patrick gets better really soon.”

I was caught off guard for a moment, but nodded. “Me too. I’ll tell him you asked about him.”

The kid’s eyes went wide like saucers as his face lit up. “Thanks, Cole.”

I waved and headed for the waiting room with Simon.

“Did that throw you?”

I blew out a short breath and rubbed my fingers over my chin. “Yeah, a little. But then I remembered the accident had been on the news.”

Simon put his hand on my shoulder. “Are you sure you don’t want to go home and get some rest? He’s going to need help when he gets home.”

“No,” I replied. “I’m not leaving him again. I promised him I’d be here.”

“Was he awake for that conversation? Because the Patrick I know would want you to get some rest.”

I huffed out a laugh. He would. “I can’t Simon. I’ll sleep when he gets into a regular room, and when we get home.”

“That could be a while, and it won’t help him recover if he’s worried about you.”

I sat down in the chair in the ICU waiting room as Adam and Michael pushed through the door with our parents.

“Hey,” I called out to them, a surge of emotion ready to spill out of me.

My mother came over first. “Sweetheart, how is Patrick?”

“Awake,” I replied, as tears of relief filled my eyes.

“Oh, baby. That’s such good news.”

“Yeah, it is. Where have you been?” I looked down at the bag of takeout my dad had carried in.

“We went to eat, and brought you back some food,” dad said, handing me the bag.

I opened it up to find a Club Sandwich inside, with fries. My stomach growled at the smell of the bacon on the sandwich.

Adam sat down beside me. “Michael’s gonna get burgers from Alejandro’s tonight for dinner.”

Alejandro’s Bar had the best burgers, and I hadn’t had one since early February before we went on tour. The night I moved out of the house.

“I think I’ll just stick to sandwiches until he can eat it.”

Adam looked at me with a knowing gaze. “Yeah, okay. No problem. We’ll pick you up something else.”

When I finished my sandwich, we sat and talked for a while. I wanted to get back into the room with Patrick, but Simon went to check on him.

“What can we do?” Michael asked.
