“I’m good, Uncle Earle; how are you?”

“Better here than I was at Layton. I’m going to need a home, Jesse,” Earle replied.

Grace was sitting upright and looking as confused as me.

We shot the shit for a few more minutes before Doc re-took the phone.

“That is not the man I spoke to a couple of days ago,” I said upon hearing Doc’s voice.

“No. Basically, Earle was being chemically lobotomised. The medication Earle was on was making him a zombie. There is some brain damage, but he’s healed over the years. We need to flush his system, and I think you’ll find a different man under the meds he was on.”

“Are you telling me Turner and everyone else were drugging Earle?” I yelled.

Grace sat up even straighter, appearing disgusted.

“Yes. There is some trauma to Earle’s brain; we can see on scans where it has healed. But it’s not as bad as how he was speaking and acting. Earle could have lived a full life, Savage. That town, or whoever it was, deliberately took away his future.”

“Heads are gonna roll. Tell me everything. Simmy said many times Earle was a genius. Are you telling me they drugged him to subdue that?” I demanded as my temper ignited.

“I don’t know Earle’s I.Q., Savage. He’s still under the influence of the drugs, and we need to be careful weaning him off. If we suddenly stop them, he could go into shock and have another stroke or heart attack. We must do this carefully, but this is the result of five days of not having them, and Earle is already much more clear-headed,” Docs said.

“We need to know, what they’ve done to Earle is illegal,” Grace cried, a hand covering her mouth.

“Keep me informed, Doc,” I stated, knowing Grace needed me. This surely stirred her own memories. I cut the call and pulled her close.

“How could they do that to him?” Grace demanded with tears in her eyes.

At that moment, whatever I’d been feeling for Grace tipped into love. Grace was crying for Earle, and other than me and Simmy, nobody had cared enough.

“Marry me,” I said, and Grace looked up with shock written across her face.

“Sorry?”

“There’s never going to be anyone else apart from you. Be my wife,” I begged.

“Savage, we’re just starting out,” Grace spluttered.

“Yup. Are you telling me you don’t love me? Coz I love you, babe.”

“Sex has gone to your head,” Grace replied.

“You’re not ready. But you will be. I want to marry you soon,” I informed Grace, and she shook her head in disbelief.

“You have so lost the plot,” Grace said.

“Yeah, but just think, we can lose it together.”

Grace’s phone rang, and she looked relieved, which made me laugh. She jabbed at the answer button, and Nancy spoke, wondering when to bring the girls back. Grace told her in an hour and hung up.

“We need to get showered and dressed,” she ordered with a sad pout.

“Yup, and also speak about moving in together. My house is probably best as I have the swimming pool and basement,” I suggested, and Grace’s jaw dropped again.

“You ever heard of going slowly?” Grace muttered as she climbed out of bed and headed for my bathroom.

I chased after her, stark naked, my cock rigid at the sight of her ass.

“Fuck no, and you’re going to be living with me by the end of today,” I promised.
