Chapter 17

Keira and Bassem sat down at the table. Bassem leaned back into his chair and studied her even further. She was a beautiful woman. She had a perfectly straight nose and high cheekbones. He could see why his mother had chosen her for him.

“It’s great to finally meet you,” she said to him. Her voice was as smooth as honey.

“Why?” Bassem asked.

“I have heard so much about you and I’ve long admired you. I just wanted to meet you in person.”

“Why do you admire me?”

“You graduated at the top of your class at MIT. Your grades were among the highest in the country.”

“So because I am intelligent?” Bassem asked. Keira smiled and shook her head.

“Your family business has improved by 6% since you moved to Austin. You are quite intelligent and hardworking,” she replied. Bassem barely reacted.

“You’ve been keeping an eye on me.”

Keira laughed softly. A maid walked out onto the courtyard and brought them refreshments. She bowed her head before she disappeared. Keira took it upon herself to pick up a glass of cold juice and hand it to the sheikh. Bassem took the glass from her and took a sip.

“What do you hope to gain from this marriage?” he asked her.

“Your heart,” she replied. Bassem let out a laugh. She was definitely trying her best to charm him.

“Let’s talk about something achievable,” he said. Every woman he had been with always talked about gaining his heart. Bassem didn’t concern himself with such frivolous things. And if he did, he had never met a woman that was worth getting his heart. They were all so shallow and boring.

“I believe that is achievable. I am a determined woman,” she said.

“It’ll be a waste of your energy.”

“It’ll be worth it.”

Bassem raised his eyebrows. “How old are you?” he asked her.

“Twenty-seven.”

“Why aren’t you married?”

“The right man hadn’t come along, and I believe that he has now.”

Bassem narrowed his gaze. “Flattery doesn’t work with me,” he said. There was no need for her to try so hard. The king had already ordered Bassem to marry her.

“I am just being honest, your highness,” Keira replied. Bassem just sighed and took a sip of his drink. He put his glass down and then rose to his feet.

“We have reached the end of our meeting,” he said. Keira rose from her seat.

“Already?” She looked confused. “We haven’t finished talking.”

“What more is there to talk about?”

“We need to get to know each other.”

Bassem shrugged his shoulders. “We shall leave that for another time,” he said. He turned on his heel and walked off. His father had demanded that he meet with Keira and he had done so.

Blake was sitting in her living room watching TV when the doorbell rang. She jumped off the sofa and ran to the front door. She opened it expecting CJ but she was wrong.
