“Come in,” she said. Daniel entered her room. Fiona shut the door behind him and then sat on the bed. “What is going on? It’s like five in the morning.” She yawned.

“I couldn’t think of anyone else to talk to,” he said. She crossed her eyebrows.

“What’s wrong?”

Daniel sighed. “I just came from speaking with my father,” he said.

“Okay?”

“The accident was not an accident. Someone sabotaged my brakes.”

Fiona gasped. “What?” she breathed.

“We don’t know who yet but it makes me so mad. Someone did this to me and for what?”

“This is crazy. Someone was malicious enough to mess with your car. This is insane,” she said.

“I just want to find out who it was and make them pay for ruining my life.”

Fiona got off the bed and sat on Daniel’s lap. “I’m sorry that this happened to you,” she said as she wrapped her arms around his neck. Daniel wrapped an arm around her and held her tightly.

“It would have been better to think that this was an accident but it wasn’t. It’s worse knowing that someone did this to me.”

“I don’t think that this was a personal attack on you.” Fiona stroked his back gently. “This comes with your position. People will always come after the prince or the king whether it is personal or not. Even if you weren’t the prince, whoever the prince was would have been in this position,” she added.

“That doesn’t make me feel better,” Daniel replied.

“I know.” Fiona held him tighter. “I wish I could help you.”

Daniel didn’t reply but she was already helping him. Having her in his life was helping him tremendously. His mental status had improved since she had come into his life. Daniel had felt so angry when he had left his father’s quarters but the moment Fiona had hugged him, at least half of that anger had melted away.

“By the way, is this what you wear to sleep?” Daniel asked Fiona. She was wearing tiny blue shorts and a white sleeveless T-shirt.She released him from her embrace.

“Yes, what is wrong with it?” she asked.

“Nothing, it’s actually cute.”

Fiona raised an eyebrow. “Cute?” she asked. Daniel looked at Fiona’s bare legs and smiled. Fiona laughed and pushed him away playfully.

Daniel and Fiona stayed in Fiona’s room for hours. They talked about all sorts of things. Daniel normally hated the idea of speaking so much to people but he didn’t mind when it came to Fiona. He enjoyed speaking to her and just learning about her life back in America. Her life was oddly interesting.

Suddenly there was a knock on Fiona’s door. Daniel and Fiona looked at each other with questioning glares. “Are you expecting someone?” Daniel asked her.

“No,” Fiona replied. She rose to her feet and went to open the door. “Your highness,” she gasped.

“Daniel, what are you doing here?” the queen asked. Daniel pressed a button on his wheelchair to turn around. He saw his mother standing in the doorway with a pale face. She was clearly in shock.

“Mother, what brings you here?” he asked her.

“I needed to have a word with your caregiver.” The queen looked at Fiona from head to toe. Fiona was still wearing the tiny shorts and sleeveless T-shirt. “Why is she dressed like this? Did you sleep here?”

“No, I–”

Before Daniel could finish speaking, his mother slapped Fiona across her right cheek. Daniel’s eyes flew wide open; he had never seen his mother slap anyone.

“You filthy wench, I warned you to only do your job and yet here you are seducing my son,” she said. The queen was almost shaking with anger.

“Mother!” Daniel spat out. Fiona touched her cheek.
