Chapter 2

“I was hired on the spot,” Fiona said to her parents at the dinner table. They both looked up from their plates with brightened facial expressions.

“You were?” her mother asked. Her tone matched the look of shock on her face. Fiona smiled and nodded.

“That’s great, honey.” Her mother took her hand into hers and smiled at her.

“I’m proud of you, Fiona,” said her father.

“Thank you,” Fiona replied. She took a deep breath before she told them the rest of her news. She wasn’t sure how her parents were going to take it. “The job is going to be in El Saad,” Fiona said quietly. Her mother looked up from her plate.

“What? It is?” her mother asked.

“Is that in New Mexico or something?” Toni asked Fiona. Toni was Fiona’s younger sister. Their mother stared at Toni with a slight frown on her face.

“This is why you should pay attention in school,” she said.

Terrence, Toni’s twin brother, chimed in. “It’s an Arabic country. You can tell from the name,” he said.

Toni curled her upper lip at him. “That’s too far.”

“My thoughts exactly,” their mother agreed. Fiona shrugged her shoulders.

“I know, but the money is good,” she said.

“You have never been away from home for more than a couple of nights,” said their mother. It was true; Fiona had never been away from home for too long. She had only slept over at her best friend Gloria’s house. It was definitely going to be tough to be away from her family and friends.

“She is a woman now,” their father said to his wife. He turned his attention to Fiona. “You are old enough to make your own decisions but are you sure you want to move halfway across the world?”

“I am nervous about it but it will be a new experience,” said Fiona. Her father smiled and nodded.

“Are you going to take your laptop with you?” Terrence asked her. Fiona narrowed her gaze at him.

“Yes I am.” She knew that her brother was going to ask to borrow it while she was gone.

“I guess the person that hired you really liked you,” said her mother. “It speaks volumes when someone hires you on the spot.”

“Lady Agaiby, she seemed alright,” said Fiona. The woman was a little bit intimidating. Fiona could tell that she was nice but she was stern. “I will be looking after her grandson,” she added before she took a bite out of her meat.

“Lady?” her mother asked.

“Yeah, she is the mother of the king of El Saad.”

“What?” Toni breathed. Their parents stared at Fiona with question marks on their faces.

“You will be looking after a prince?” Terrence asked. He let out a sarcastic laugh. “That is not possible. How can an ordinary girl like yourself work for a prince?”

“A Middle Eastern prince from a country that we have never heard of,” said Toni. Fiona shrugged her shoulders.

“I looked them up on the internet. Lady Agaiby came up as the former queen of El Saad and the mother of the current king. She wasn’t lying,” Fiona explained.

“Seriously?” their mother asked. Fiona nodded.

“That worries me even more,” said their father. He rubbed the temples of his head. “You will be living in the palace?” he asked.

“Yes, but why does that worry you?” Fiona replied. Lady Agaiby’s secretary had sent her e-mail with a contract. The contract had the details of what her job required. In the contract, there was also a non-disclosure agreement that she had to sign. Since she was going to look after the prince, obviously Lady Agaiby would want someone that was not going to spew secrets to the tabloids.

“You will be living in the palace. There will be many eyes on you, it is easy to make a mistake,” their father said.
