“I was never able to attend a university because my family couldn’t afford it. However, my not having a degree won’t be an issue. I pick things up very quickly and I am very hard-working,” Fiona replied.

“So your family isn’t wealthy?” Lady Agaiby asked.

“No,” Fiona replied. “My mother works at a diner and my father is a bus driver.”

Lady Agaiby raised her eyebrows. “I don’t think that you are suitable for this role based on your lack of experience and education. The position also requires a person that is well-dressed and you seem as though you purchased second-hand cl0thing,” she said. Second-hand clothing? That was quite rude, Fiona thought to herself.

“My dressing doesn’t affect how I do my job, and I always make sure to look professional,” Fiona replied.

“Okay, I have other people to interview.”

“Thank you for having me.” Fiona rose to her feet. She headed back towards the house. Just before she walked in, she heard Lady Agaiby calling her. Fiona turned around and returned to Lady Agaiby.

“Please have a seat,” she said to Fiona.

“Okay.” Fiona sat down slowly.

“I like that you can maintain your composure. You’re not easily intimidated and that is what I am looking for,” she said. Fiona raised her eyebrows. She felt extremely confused.

“Okay.” Fiona nodded. “Thank you.”

“I am looking for someone that will look after my thirty-year-old grandson,”said Lady Agaiby.

“Is your grandson okay?” Fiona asked with widened hazel eyes full of curiosity.

“Not really.” Lady Agaiby sighed. “He was in a car accident.”

“Oh my God, I am sorry to hear that.”

“The accident left him wheelchair bound.”

Fiona placed her hand on her chest. “That must be hard,” she said.

“It is quite hard. He was a very lively and energetic person. It is not easy seeing him being so depressed and angry. I am looking for someone to look after him,” Lady Agaiby explained.

“I see,” Fiona replied. She would probably feel depressed as well if an accident had left her wheelchair bound.

“Yes. He is very stubborn and short-tempered. So far, he has had more than twenty maids. Not any one of them was able to last a week with him. They either quit or he fired them within the first few days.”

Fiona raised her eyebrows. “I understand that he may be angry and depressed. He went through a life-changing situation. It may be hard to adjust,” she said. Lady Agaiby raised her eyebrows and nodded.

“I agree. I need someone to stick around no matter what he says or does,” she replied.

“What kind of duties does the job entail?”

“The person would be required to serve his every need whether it’s serving him food, doing his laundry, supporting him in and out of the house and supporting him in physiotherapy,” said Lady Agaiby.

“Okay, that sounds simple enough,” said Fiona.

“Except that it isn’t simple. I can almost guarantee that you will get into an argument with him. He is a lot to handle.”

“It’s alright, I am not easily intimidated.”

“I should have started the conversation by letting you know that my grandson is the only son of King Agaiby of El Saad.”

Fiona raised her eyebrows. “A crown prince,” she said. Lady Agaiby nodded.

“That is part of the reason that I’ve had to come to the U.S. to find someone. Everyone in El Saad is too intimidated to stand up to him. In our culture, women are not as liberated as American women.”
