“You are not my shrink. I would prefer it if you left my quarters and never return.”

“I am sorry but I can’t leave. Only your grandmother can fire me,” she said gently. “I will give you your space but–”

Daniel cut her off before she finished speaking. He was no longer interested in hearing whatever nonsense she had to say. It was easy for her to talk about hope because she was not in his situation. She did not know what it felt like to be in a wheelchair.

“Just get out of my sight,” he said. Fiona bowed her head and disappeared. Daniel shook his head. She was acting so tough as if she was never going to quit her job but he told her to get out of his sight and she had done so. He took the remote and switched on the television.

A couple of hours later, Fiona walked into the living room and bowed her head to him. “Good afternoon,” she greeted him.

“I thought I told you to go,” he said with a frown. He was surprised to see her.

“I did go. I gave you some space.”

“I did not ask for space.”

“Your lunch is ready.”

“I am not hungry.”

She raised her eyebrows and looked at him suspiciously. She clearly didn’t believe him. “You’ve only had grapes today and that isn’t enough. You must eat something,” she said.

“Go away,” he said.

“I will bring the food to you then.” She turned on her heel and left the room. She reappeared moments later with a plate of rice and lamb. She had a drink in the other hand. Daniel sighed.

“You are so annoying,” he said to her.

“Here you go.” She handed him the plate.

“You actually expect me to eat my lunch at the sofa.”

“Would you like to have it at the table?”

Daniel frowned at her as he took the plate from her. He had never eaten breakfast, lunch or dinner at the sofa. However, he was willing to do so because Fiona was annoying him and he actually was hungry. He picked up the fork and started eating. Fiona sat on the sofa opposite him and waited for him to finish eating. She took the plate and glass back to the kitchen when he finished eating.

“Do you need anything else?” she asked him.

“I need for you to go away,” he replied.

“I will give you some space.”

“No, I did not say give me space.” Daniel groaned with irritation.

“Who are you?” a voice sounded. Fiona and Daniel both turned their heads towards the sound to see who it was. A tall, beautiful, elegant woman stood there looking at Fiona with a questioning glare.

“Hello, I’m Fiona,” she said and extended her hand for a handshake. The woman looked at Fiona’s hand with a frown on her face and then looked at Daniel for an answer.

“My new caregiver,” he said with a frown on his face.

“Oh, you are looking after my son?”

“Oh.” Fiona gasped. “Greetings, your majesty.” She bowed her head.

“You do not even recognize the queen,” said Daniel. He looked amused. His mother looked at Fiona and shook her head. She looked unimpressed.

“I will see to my son’s needs for the rest of the day. You may go.” She dismissed Fiona with her hand.

“I am okay to do it,” said Fiona.

“I said you may go.”

Fiona bowed her head and left the room.
