“Ten hours,” he replied. Emma whipped her head in his direction.

“That is a long flight.”

“It is indeed.”

Emma sank in her chair and folded her arms over her chest. Kiro took out his tablet. Emma decided to read a novel. It was going to be a long flight. She definitely needed to do something to keep herself busy.

As she was reading, Emma found it hard to concentrate. There was a question that she needed to ask Kiro. “Why me?” she said.

“What?” Kiro replied without looking up from his tablet.

“Why did you take me along with you?”

“Dania is in Kuwait.”

“You could have asked the other receptionist,” she said. It would have made better sense if he had asked the full-time receptionist. She had been working for Besada Oils for a few years.

“She has childcare problems,” he replied. That wasn’t the answer Emma was hoping to hear. She wanted him to say that he wanted her company or something like that.

“Oh,” she replied.

“What?”

“Nothing.” Emma cleared her throat. “Where are we going to stay? Well, you can stay in the palace. Where would I stay?”

“In the palace.”

Emma raised her eyebrows. “In the palace?” she asked.

“Of course. That’s where Dania stays too when she comes for work with me,” he said. Emma narrowed her gaze at him. He really wasn’t saying the right things. She just wanted to know where she stood in his life and how he felt about her.

“I see,” Emma replied as she sat up straight. She returned her attention to her novel but she still couldn’t concentrate. She looked at Kiro and then back at her novel. She looked at him again.

“What is it?” he asked her.

“Huh? I didn’t say anything.”

Kiro put the tablet down on the table and looked at Emma. He held her chin with his fingers and turned her head. “What’s wrong?” he asked her. Emma was suddenly feeling very nervous. She wanted to know what she was to him but she was scared of the answer. It didn’t help that he was so close to her and staring in her eyes.

“Nothing,” she said softly.

“Whatever it is, you can say it to me.”

Emma took a deep breath. “What am I to you?” she asked quietly.
