Chapter 14

Kiro

Kiro said nothing as he stared at Emma. She looked simple but beautiful. When invited to be in his company, most women wore next to nothing. They wore revealing clothing and a lot of makeup. Emma just wore a summery dress and no makeup. She had tied up her long, wavy brunette hair in a knot.

“Sir?” she said.

“I thought we’d have lunch in my home,” he said to her. Kiro wasn’t that good at dates. He wasn’t the romantic type to buy flowers and take a woman to a fancy restaurant.

“I think that’s nice.”

Kiro walked over to the glass doors and slid them open. “Come,” he said to Emma. She followed him outside. There was a table in the garden. Kiro wanted to have lunch with Emma in the garden.

“This garden is amazing,” she said as she walked outside.

“It is. I like sitting out here because it reminds me of home.” Kiro pulled out a chair for Emma. She smiled as she sat down. He sat in the chair opposite her.

“You must miss your home.”

“Everything is completely different here; the culture, the food and the people.”

A few maids came out into the garden with trays of food and plates. They set the table and then served Kiro and Emma their food. They poured drinks out for them before they disappeared back into the house.

“This food looks delicious,” said Emma.

“This is traditional food from my country. I hope you don’t mind,” said Kiro.

“No, I don’t mind. I like trying out new foods.” Emma picked up her fork and started eating. “Wow, this rice tastes good. It’s really different from the way we make our rice.”

“It has Arabic spices. Western women aren’t good at cooking,” Kiro replied. Emma started laughing.

“I’m a good cook.”

“I doubt that.”

Emma gasped. “Why?” she asked him. Kiro responded with a grunt. She looked at him for a moment without saying anything. “Sheikh Besada, why did you bid on me?” she asked him. Kiro chewed his meat slowly without removing his eyes from hers. She had gorgeous big grey eyes.

“I wanted to,” Kiro replied. Emma let out a laugh.

“Why did you want to?”

“I just did.”

“Oh my God.” Emma laughed again. “Boy, it is hard to get anything out of you. Sir, could you please give more details.”

“You are curious,” he said plainly.

“Of course I am curious. I was pretty convinced that no one was going to bid on me and then you did. You actually paid $20,000. That’s a lot of money. Of course I would be curious as to why you would be willing to spend that much money to go on a date with me, even if it was for charity,” she said. Kiro raised his eyebrows. He would say one thing and she would give him a thousand-word answer.

“Why would no one bid on you?” he asked.

“What?”

“You said that you were convinced that no one would bid on you.”

“I don’t know.” Emma took a sip of her drink. “I just don’t stand out or anything.”

“You do stand out.”
