Ty laughs. “I’m not sure what that means, but if that’s what you want, then sure.”

“You haven’t watched Frozen? I sang every song from that movie at the top of my lungs for two years. You have to know some of it.”

“I don’t watch much television.”

“We’re watching Frozen tonight. I’m not taking no for an answer.”

“Yes, ma’am.” Ty brings our still joined hands to his lips, kissing the back of my hand. “I’ll do anything you want.”

My cheeks turn red in an instant. “Good, prepare for Frozen 1 and 2.” I dodge his innuendo once more. “Why isn’t it safe for me to leave this building?” I turn the conversation in a full half circle.

Ty sighs before walking closer to the windows. “There are others out there. Others that mean to do me harm. The reason that I’m all that’s left.”

“Why? I remember when I studied mythology that Thor killed many jotunn with his hammer.” I look up in question. “Is Thor outside, waiting for me?”

He smiles before answering. “No. That part of our story was created by man. Humans have an insatiable need to, for lack of a better word, humanize everything. In their minds, ice giants can’t exist, so there must have been something more powerful to kill them. In actuality, it was the humans themselves who murdered most of the jotunn.”

“How?”

“Not all humans are weak. Millennia ago, groups were formed to battle the jotunn. I’m sure you’re familiar with stories throughout the ages of giants being taken down by human means.” I nod in response. “Those groups were large in numbers and over the years have killed nearly everyone.”

“My father?”

He looks down. “I don’t know the exact details, but yes, I’m sure they were responsible for your father and most likely your mother.”

“How did I survive?”

“I don’t know. Your father must have gone to great lengths and sacrifices to protect you.”

Tears begin to form in my eyes. “Did he sacrifice his life to protect me?”

Ty moves to my side, lacing his fingers through mine again. “I don’t have an answer for that.”

“Why am I in danger here? This is your home.”

“Over the years, rumors of my existence have turned into just that, rumors. However, there are a few hunters out there, searching for the last jotunn.”

“They don’t know about me?”

“No,” he answers. “I’m the last of my kind in their eyes.”

“How have you survived so long?”

Dimples form on his cheeks. “I’m the strongest jotunn to ever live. Many have tried, and many have failed.”

“Teach me to fight. Teach me to protect myself.”

“Now?” he asks.

“Yes. I want to be ready.”

He steps back with an approving look. “Okay. Do you have any clothes to change into?”

I smirk. “You saw my suitcases bursting at the seams, didn’t you?” I run past the now melting ice into the bedroom. Opening my suitcase is like one of those creepy Jack in the Box toys that explodes and scares you to death. The lid of my suitcase pops open with a sigh of relief, spilling my perfectly creased clothes onto the bed. Normally, I would spend the next hour ironing and folding each item until they were pristine. Today, I throw them around, looking for the right pair of leggings and sports bra. Finding the ones I want, I change quickly, throwing my blonde hair into a high ponytail.

The eleven hours of sleep I got on the plane has kicked in, making me a bundle of energy. I’m back in the main room in less than five minutes. Ty is standing in the same spot as before. His rock-hard muscles beg to be freed from the skin-tight t-shirt he’s wearing. Both arms are pressed against the glass in front of him. He seems to be in deep thought, and I hate to disturb him.

“Ty?” I question after staring at him longer than necessary.
