“I didn’t think you’d noticed with all the female attention you were getting.” Her tone is sharp, but there’s a hint of vulnerability lying there. She’s trying to disguise it, but I hear it just the same.

So, Dallas and her friends were an issue.

“I haven’t noticed any women other than you.”

She rolls her eyes and continues to play with the straw in her cup, but even biting her bottom lip doesn’t hide the brightness in her eyes or the flush making its way across her cheeks.

“Now that it’s out in the open with Oak, can we stop playing this little game?” I ask her.

“What game are you talking about?”

“The one where you pretend you don’t want me around our friends.”

She scoffs out a laugh. “I think it’s the other way around.”

“Oh, I definitely want you. And I’m happy for the whole damn world to know it.”

“Prove it,” she challenges.

She stops right in front of me when we make it back to the group. Her little date is still singing onstage. I wish we were standing closer so he could enjoy the show I’m about to put on.

“Just remember … you asked for it, baby.”

My hand snakes around the nape of her neck as I hold her in place. I can feel eyes on us from all angles as my lips crash into hers. This isn’t a kiss. It’s a claiming. She gasps, and I slide my tongue into her mouth. Madison tastes sweet, like cranberry, mixed with that strawberry lip gloss she’s always wearing. It’s a combination I never knew I liked, but one that’s quickly becoming addictive.

“What the …” I hear from the side. It’s McMann’s voice.

Someone whistles, long and low and seductive. It’s probably Sims.

Another person clears their throat.

“Oh jeez,” comes my sister’s voice. I can sense the eye roll that accompanies her exclamation.

I pull away from Madison with a wolfish grin on my face.

“Can you give a girl a minute to adjust?” Oakley complains from a few feet away. “I just found out about you two a hot second ago. Can you stop devouring her right in front of me?”

I snicker, completely unrepentant. Madison looks dazed.

“What the hell, dude?” Charlie accuses.

I look him directly in the eye as I pull Madison back to my side. “Now, you know. So, you can stop putting your grubby little hands all over my girl.”

“My hands are not little,” Charlie counters, insulted by my description of him and totally missing the point. “These suckers are huge … just like other parts of me.” His eyebrows wiggle up and down as he smirks.

“Your girl?” Ben says. His eyebrows arch as his mouth slides into a knowing grin. “I knew it! I knew you two weren’t just roommates.”

I don’t argue with his statement. I also don’t miss the look of displeasure on Dallas’s face.

Madison doesn’t say a word when I tug her in front of me, but she’s relaxed, and she seems content. The rest of the night, I keep her there, nestled firmly against my chest, with one arm across her stomach and the other anchored to her hip.

Dallas stays away. I don’t even notice another woman for the rest of the night. And all the male attention that was on Mads earlier is now fleeting when they see her in my arms.

Mine.
