“Thank you for being so brave. You made me proud.” I grinned.

“Well… I can't be married to a mafia boss and not have at least some of his bravery passed to me …sexually.” Her eyebrows danced on the last word.

“Oh, you mean STB?” I asked.

“What?” She looked puzzled.

“Sexually transmitted bravery. STB,” I explained.

“Ooh…” she drawled, “That's actually a good one, Nik.” She chuckled. “You pick up fast.”

“I do have a sense of humor,” I said, and we laughed for a while.

“I love you, Nikolai Wolkov,” she confessed to me.

When I heard her say these words, my heart skipped a beat. I knew I was a flawed human being; I had done terrible things and would continue to do them. That was just the way I was, I was a beast, without question. And yet this beauty, daddy's innocent little girl, loved me regardless of that fact.

I would never screw it up. She would be mine forever, under my protection, and as long as I lived, no harm would come to her, not on my watch.

Smiling, I leaned forward and kissed her on the forehead, but she drew my lips to hers. Slowly and gently, we succumbed to an intimate and passionate kiss.

My phone rang and I glanced at the lit screen. It was Savic. This was important.

I looked at her without a word. She knew I had to take it privately and with a smile, she nodded.

“Go. Take it. I'll be fine.”

I kissed her on the forehead and walked out. She gradually became my ideal woman. Respectful, loyal, and understanding, loving and a little hot-headed.

I stopped at the door, gave her a wink and a smile before stepping out.

“Yes?” I answered the phone outside.

“We've found the one responsible for the attack on Ashley,” Savic said from the other line, and just like that, the anger returned, worse than before.

I was almost sure that I knew the name Savic was about to mention.

“Trevor White.”

At the mention of his name, I seethed. “That bloody bastard!” I cursed.

“One of his men ratted him out and we were able to find him.” Savic added, “It looks like he's been holding a grudge against you since the day you embarrassed him in public. That was his feeble attempt to return the favor.”

“I want him dead, Savic,” I snarled.

“Well, it's your lucky day?” he replied. “We have him right here.”

Savic put the phone on speaker, and I could hear the bastard's voice as he groaned. Savic must have given him hell already.

“You went after my wife, Trevor!” I said to him, trying not to raise my voice or draw unwanted attention to myself. “My wife!” I emphasized so he would feel the gravity of what he had done. “You put her and our unborn child in harm's way.”

“I didn't know she was with child. I'm sorry,” he begged, his voice weak and faint.

“You're sorry?” I was rhetorical but the idiot replied to me anyway.

“Yes …I truly am. I didn’t know, please …” he cried over the phone.

The Bratva had the most torturous methods of breaking a man, and Savic must have used only a fraction of our methods on him.
