“Nik, calm down,” her voice was hushed as though she was ashamed of me causing a scene.

“Answer the damn question!” I lost my temper.

“Bro, chill!” The guy stood up and pushed me on the shoulder. My stance was firm, my feet firmly planted on the fine floor. This made his push feel as light as a feather. This lanky young man had no chance against me.

I stared at him with a foreboding look, a sign that he should hold back, but he just wanted to be the hero of the day.

“Joshua…don't, please,” she requested him, holding his hand.

Now, I was pissed.

“You're a tough one, huh, Joshua…is that it?”

“Nik, please.” She tried to hold my hand, but I yanked it away and concentrated entirely on him.

“You should calm down, pal,” he said to me.

“Pal?” My eyebrows knitted in anger.

“Joshua, shut the hell up,” she shunned him immediately, knowing he was beginning to cross a dangerous line.

They sounded like they were close.

“No, he doesn't get to treat you like this,” Joshua replied and faced me, “Learn how to talk to a woman. Especially in public…pal.”

Ashley swallowed hard. This was it. He'd crossed that line.

I sniffled and wiped my nose with my thumb while averting my eyes from him. A second later, my fist hit his nose and sent him reeling in pain.

He hadn't quite come to terms with his nosebleed when I grabbed his hand and twisted it tight. So hard that you could hear his bones crack. His moans meant nothing to me.

“Nik, stop!” Ashley snarled at me as she stood up, right in front of me, looking up at me with fiery eyes. In that moment, she challenged me without fear. Just as I was angry, so was she. “Let him go, right now.”

The command in her tone was demeaning and hot at the same time. I looked around; people were watching and sure enough, we were causing a scene. With a sneer, I let go of Joshua and he sank into his chair, holding his injured hand.

“What the hell?” I heard a female voice from behind me and before I could turn around, she walked past me and sat down on a chair next to Joshua. “Why did you do that?” The young woman asked me with a frown.

“I'm so sorry, Vivian. This was just a misunderstanding,” Ashley reasoned with her.

I figured Vivian must have been in the bathroom or somewhere before I came in. From the looks of it, Ashley wasn't alone with this man. Suddenly I realized why she looked so familiar. She was one of Ashley’s bridesmaids. Suddenly I realize that the Joshua man must be family too.

“A misunderstanding…? He fractured my arm!” Joshua lashed out painfully.

“I know and I'm sorry. I really am.”

“Let's go,” I commanded.

“I'm really sorry, guys,” she said to them before leaving.

As we left, her in the front and me in the back, heads turned, and the observers were soon whispering. She opened the passenger door and sat down with her arms crossed in front of her chest while she fretted quietly. I opened the driver's door and slid in.

“What the hell, Nik!” She turned in my direction, “Did you really have to do that, to make a scene?”

“Wait, so this is my fault?” I asked.

“Are you seriously asking me that, right now?” The disbelief in her tone was glaring, “You embarrassed me just because I was hanging out with my cousins–and you wonder why I think so little of you.” She uttered the last statement under her breath.

“Your cousins?” I asked.
